Default Nosferatu (1922)

Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens Blu-ray

Quote:
An unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, Nosferatu is the quintessential silent vampire film, crafted by legendary German director F. W. Murnau (Sunrise, Faust, The Last Laugh). Rather than depicting Dracula as a shape-shifting monster or debonair gentleman, Murnau's Graf Orlok (as portrayed by Max Schreck) is a nightmarish, spidery creature of bulbous head and taloned claws -- perhaps the most genuinely disturbing incarnation of vampirism yet envisioned. Nosferatu was an atypical expressionist film in that much of it was shot on location. While directors such as Lang and Lubitsch built vast forests and entire towns within the studio, Nosferatu's landscapes, villages and castle were actual locations in the Carpathian Mountains. Murnau was thus able to infuse the story with the subtle tones of nature: both pure and fresh as well as twisted and sinister. Remastered in high definition for the first time and making its Blu-ray debut exclusively from Kino Classics.
[Show spoiler]Update (8/21) Release date: November 12

First up, our friends at Kino Lorber tell us they’re hard at work on some great new Blu-ray and DVD titles for release through the end of this year, including a deluxe version of F.W. Murnau’s original Nosferatu (1922), as well as Orson Welles’ The Trial (1962) and Alexander Sokurov’s groundbreaking Russian Ark (2002). In any case, all three titles are very welcome additions to the Blu-ray format.

Kino's working on something cool for their Nosferatu packaging, but they're not ready to reveal it yet.

I'll be getting either this, or the UK Steelbook. Depends on the Steels' design, and the extras included on either. The transfers should be fairly similar I imagine.

Will the Kino have German-language intertitles though? As I recall, all of their foreign silent DVDs only had English-language intertitles, which is one of the reasons I always chose the MoC versions.

exactly.
Eureka version will most likely be superior imo for just that reason.
imo having the original intertitles really enhances the overall film experience, although I can totally understand it being a non-issue for most people.
it creates a more authentic viewing imo--especially with the great German silents.

I like watching Nosferatu for the visuals, the intertitles don't make much of a difference to me being in English. German is sufficient. Being silent, the music and the picture is very emotional on it's own. I don't need words, I have only actually read my way through it once or twice.

I wish someone would do something with The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari too.
