Default Happy Aboriginal Day

June 21 is recognized as Aboriginal Day in some places in Canada.
I just wanted to wish anyone celebrating and/or enjoying festivities, a great big Happy Aboriginal Day!

Call me clueless, but I thought Aborigines were from Australia.

Aboriginal Day. The Aboriginal people of Canada are the first nations, comprised of Inuit (Eskimos) & Metis (Indians). I think there are around 1.5 million of them in Canada.

Aboriginal adj races of people, living creatures, etc belonging to,existing in,a region from earliest times,or from the time the region was first known.
n inhabitant,plant,ect of a region.
Aborigine n Australian person.
Is'nt English fun,Native American Indians could be described as being aboriginal, although Mitt Romney may consider otherwise,I could'nt possibly comment.

Wow; I didn't know that. You learn something new every day, I guess.

We have a Metis Elder coming into our work today to talk about their Medicine Wheel and he is doing a Sacred Smudge Ceremony.

Wow man...very cool. Most of the Indians I grew up with in Norhern Ontario were Great hockey players and ballplayers, and nails tough. There wasn't a chickensh*t amoung them.

Happy Aboriginal Day to anyone celebrating it!

Theres some festivities in a park close to downtown that we're gonna check out. The Metis fishfry is always good!

As far as I know, there's only Billy and I that are aboriginal here, but that doesn't mean that anyone else can't celebrate it. At these events there are people from all races celebrating and if theres any events near where you live, I highly recommend you check it out, they're usually awesome!

Default Happy Aboriginal Day

I leave for work tomorrow, so won't be going to the celebration in my town. If any of your cities or towns are celebrating, go check it out.

Here's an interesting video from the Cherokee Nation:

And some info on The Cherokee:

Happy Aboriginal Day to you. I am not Native but I have several friends who are. I enjoy going to some of the celebrations, particularly the dancing.

Thank you, same to you!
Yes, the Inuit drumming, Metis jigging and the Native Round Dance are awesome!
The various foods as well!

Happy Aboriginal Day!

I know this is the quietest thread ever, but if there are any celebrations in your town or city, you should check 'em out!

Here's a pic I took while at a celebration several years ago:

Hope you had a good one yesterday. Hopefully one day soon we will be recognizing this as an "official" stat holiday. I have a feeling that under Trudeau, that might be a possibility.

Happy Aboriginal Day!
I’m at work so can’t participate, but hopefully some of you people can!
It’s a holiday here, so I’ll be making good money today, haha!
