United Kingdom The Secret of Kells (Coming on November 1)

So according to this blog post on the Cartoon Saloon web site, The Secret of Kells has been available in both DVD and Blu-ray Disc editions in Ireland (as in not the UK, but Éire) since August 2009. Can anyone verify this? If it exists, could we get some pictures and specs?

I'm also very interested in purchasing this Irish Blu-ray (if it exists) as I enjoy importing from different countries, but Irish titles seem very difficult to find online, and the few places I did find this title only had a DVD edition available.

Note that it also released today (10 March) in Australia on DVD only, it looks like.

Update:

PRE-ORDER:
The Secret of Kells Blu-ray

Well I live in Dublin, however I've only ever seen the DVD. I'll have a look around and see if I can find it though.

I've only ever noticed the DVD too, but I'll be in a local HMV in the next couple of days and I'll ask.

Such a shame that they did not (hopefully could not) include the original language track on that release...

I have an e-mail in to Cartoon Saloon, so hopefully we'll get a definitive answer soon.

Cartoon Saloon actually states "[T]he DVD and BLU RAY discs of the Secret of Kells are out now nationwide!" Dated 8/2009, and not specifying which nation (presumably Ireland). Check for yourself! [EDIT: Oops, same link as McCrunchy!] However, the only place I could find the BD online was the aforementioned French version.

IMDB has a limited US release listed for March 10th (its previous US "releases" were only film festivals), and I've read elsewhere it will be expanded in April. I hope for a US Blu-ray after that, but for small films like this one, you never know.

Had it won Sunday (damn right it should have!!), a Blu-ray would be a foregone conclusion.

Certainly keep us posted on Cartoon Saloon's response! This is a movie that begs for a Blu-ray!

Did anyone ever find the blu-ray of this in Ireland? I've been looking too, but I've only found the DVD in any of my local shops. Was it ever actually released on BD???

No, not in Ireland it wasn't. Éire only got a DVD last year, but I assume the UK BD will be widely available there in November.

There is already a Region A release out that seems identical to the Irish DVD in terms of supplements, so either way you could get it, unless you happen to live in Region C and both the USA and UK releases are locked...

I wonder what extras will actually be included on UK release, as I'm unable to find detailed information on extras and Optimum Home Entertainment didn't respond to my email.

So far the extras sound similar to the Irish DVD releases, except there has been no mention of the commentary been included.

Actually the US release isn't equal to the Irish DVD release in terms of extras, several extras are missing:
Behind the Scenes at Digital Graphics, Belgium
Extended sequences
Short film - Cuilin Dualach

The US release adds several more extras though:
Aisling at the Oscars
Director’s Presentation (Sounds like previous galleries, with added commentary)
Early Concept Trailer (with optional commentary)
Voices of Ireland

I live in region A (non US). I prefer to get the bluray from Amazon UK if it is region free since the shipping is much lower that that charge at Amazon US. If it is confirmed that the UK release is region locked then I have no choice but to purchase it from Amazon US. Thanks for the info.

UK Extras include:
•Trailer
•Deleted scenes
•Storyboard comparison with line test
•Cullin Dualach
•Compositing
•Digital Ink Paint
•Effects

No commentary, most likely (being Optimum releasing) Region B locked, I guess the region-free US disc is the winner

The extras match the Irish DVD release, judging by an initial review at MyReviewer.

But the 'Cuilin Dualach' short is mentioned as having no English subtitles, which were available on the Irish DVD release. Can anyone confirm the English subtitles were removed from the short?

The English subs remain on the short I guess the reviewer didn't press the subtitle button on his remote :P
