Downloads will NEVER support the quality I demand from my films.
If I want digital downloads, I'd watch things on my ipod and call it HD.
It's a joke and obviously Universal has no faith in HD-DVD if they are joining up with this too.

I think that HD downloads are a pretty good idea but only if I can own the movie on my computer. I dont want to only rent. I would need a much much much bigger hard drive to have a decent collection. And if burning the movies to disk is the solution then why not just buy the movies on Blu or HD DVD to begin with.

I hate watching films on my computer...WTF was the point of buying an HDTV if I can't watch films on it?
I also bet it will have no surround sound, and high compression rates in video and audio. It already says it is only 1080i.

VUDO Home Page

Paramount currently handles Dreamworks and Dreamworks Animation
Fox handles MGM

What happens if they all start offering HD over VUDU?

If instead of Universal, it was Disney supporting VUDU...All of the headlines on the FUD websites would say "Disney to join VUDU and to leave Blu-ray?". Actually this gives me an idea

Actually I posted this in eproducwars.com. Those "nice" people over there deserve a little taste of this. Although, I can seriously write that Toshiba will not like Universal Studios to release "exclusive" movies through a download service? Where is the commitment to HD DVD? Like I posted before if this info pertained to a Blu-ray studio, we would have 200 hysterical responses to this thread by now.

This is telling news...Universal, is the first studio to offer movies for download. Their commitment and faith in HD DVD must be very shaky!

I think the decision makers at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. should take a look at that and consider the consequences. Do they want one high definition disc format that is strong so they can sell movies on discs to compete with things like that, or are they fine with the format war on discs continuing and maybe something like that taking a good portion of the market? Do they realize that some of the studios are trying to cut them out of the loop for individual movies and that one strong high definition on disc format would be good for their business models?
