This is awesome news.
I loved Bad Grandpa. It was pretty dang funny. Only thing I'm worried about is that these "x.5" Jackass films usually have a disturbing amount of gross content; much more gross stuff than actual funny stuff. Given the difference between this and Jackass, though, I don't expect it to be too too gross. Still worries me a little, though. |

I just saw that this will be airing on MTV on 6/19. I wasn't interested in buying it (already own the original release), so this works out perfect for me. Hope this helps others that were wanting to check it out, but not wanting to spend the cash.

Has anyone watched this yet on Netflix? I'm trying to figure out how this compares to the original version. More specifically, I want to know if this is completely altered to the level of the Anchorman alternate version from the Rich Mahogany edition.

I'm not sure how much more it can be stated, but this is not Bad Grandpa. It's Bad Grandpa .5. Much like Jackass 1.5 and 2.5 before it, it's a movie comprised of the "best" cut material that didn't make it into the final film. Unlike those other ones, though, Bad Grandpa .5 has a hefty amount of behind-the-scenes stuff. I know the other ones have some behind-the-scenes footage, but Bad Grandpa .5 honestly partly feels like a making-of documentary more than a whole new movie with myriad jokes. There are some great jokes that were left out, but I honestly wasn't laughing all that much. Compared to the original film, I would not go into this one with the goal of laughing hysterically (which Bad Grandpa did to me). This is a more subdued affair that is more interesting than funny. They have lots of interesting anecdotes about the production, including all the hiding places they put cameras. My favorite part about it is that it has a few interviews with people that were "victims" of the pranks, as well as footage that happened after the fact to show how good of sports these "victims" are when they find out it is all a joke. They aren't all that hilarious, but it is so neat to see what happens when the cameras stop rolling... technically. I wish more prank-based movies, such as Borat and Brüno, would take advantage of that. I don't think this is as worth a purchase as its predecessor, but it is an interesting complementing feature. Since Netflix also has the 30 minute featurette bonus material, I don't really know how much of a value the Blu-ray purchase would be. What are the bonus materials for the Blu-ray? |

So, wait, this isn't the actual movie? It's just a bonus disc of sorts that got a standalone release? Am I understanding you correctly?

Jackass 2.5 and 3.5 are also completely stand alone films with stunts that either didn't work during filming or just didn't make test audiences laugh. New interviews and open/closing sequences were shot for these segments. The same thing is happening here: Bad Grandpa .5 is a new completely stand alone film with its own narrative. |

Its almost like a behind the scenes documentary of the crew showing scenes of what went wrong, how long it took them to find someone to fall for the prank, some added scenes, production details and it adds the backstory of the Grandma character played by Catherine Keener.

It's mostly just a making of movie more than anything and it wasn't nearly as good as the first film which made me laugh a lot. It was worth watching once, but I have no interest in seeing it again. |
