20th Century Fox Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013) Blu-ray 3D [Region Locked / Free]

Percy Jackson: Sea of monsters 3D Blu-ray

I saw an early showing today. It's a decent fantasy flick with some cool action scenes. The 3D was minimal with a little pop-out and subtle depth in some scenes. I don't know why studios don't put more effort into their 3D conversions. I don't think it differentiates itself enough from its 2D digital counterpart to justify burning a proverbial hole in my pocket. Hopefully the 3D will stand out more when I get it on Blu-ray this fall. For some reason, movies like Jack the Giant Slayer on Blu-Ray have better 3D on my TV than what I saw at the cinema. I hope it's the case with this as well.

The trailer I saw before Wolverine had some really great looking 3D so I'm surprised to hear you say it wasn't good.

I really enjoyed the 3D trailer of this movie as well, that's why I was eager to see it. Like I said, it'll probably look better on Blu-ray but the 3D in the actual movie was a bit of a letdown for me.

The trailer probably has the better 3D bits in it with a lot of CGI that is rendered native.

I was surprised to see this series get continued because it was my impression the first film wasn't much of a success. I also thought the 3D in the trailer looked great and had me kinda wanting to see this but the reviews for this haven't been very kind.

I think I'll pass on a trip to the cinema and maybe I'll grab it once the 3D Blu is released and the price drops.

I didn't see the first one but a friend said it was good. This looks interesting and the 3D in the trailer was mostly medium with some very nice pop outs.

As already suggested, the trailer's 3D doesn't always reflect the final product's 3D. 3D trailers can also be converted separate from the movie if they wanted, though that is seeming less likely with CGI 3D special effects taking a longer time to render and ready assets that don't need conversion.

Thanks for the review on this Jay Ellis. Glad to hear the action was good. But yes, hopefully the 3D looks better at home. What theater did you see it at?

I saw the 3D trailer for Percy Jackson 2 3D on a Cinemark XD3D screen.
If Elysium wasn't playing, I might have seen this or Planes 3D, but can only fit one movie per week.

Lightning Thief made $226+ million globally on a 95 million dollar budget so not too shabby. I liked the movie a lot and saw it twice already. I would go check it out. I hope we get another sequel. I was so glad they made this after abandoning the Eragon series.

Saw this on release day yesterday. It had some good 3d moments here and there. They used a technique of splashing water on the camera lens which looked cool. To me though, the movie was very boring. Maybe if I've read the book or seen the first one?
When comparing this to other recent live Acton theatrical releases this one would sink to the bottom for sure. I don't regret seeing it or anything but this won't be purchased by me unless it's 9.99 or less

Yeah, too bad Elysium wasn't also converted to strong 3D. Let us know how you like PJSoM 3D.

Sorry to hear about that. I also like a lot of action in a movie, but also value a good story as I get older. That splashing effect sounds good for pop outs, along with the spears or objects flying out from the trailer.

Finally saw this in 3D today, and I gotta say, the 3D and movie are excellent. I was really surprised at how much I was laughing at the jokes in the movie and it was a worthy sequel to the first (which I actually really liked).

The conversion was very good, and while there were errors, the depth levels were excellent and the popouts were great!

When I saw the 3D trailer, it looked promising, so good to hear you liked it. What was your favorite 3D scene?

My favorite 3D scene was probably the bull fight from the beginning. Really cool dimensionality to the fight and the creature design was pretty imaginative and amazing on the bull imo

Sets and effects became the professional impetus for the movie to unfold. Experienced mostly Medium 3D conversion without disappointment. My problem was that I kept wincing at the high-school level dialogue along with the accompanying predictable cliches that IMO, carried the movie in an unintentional direction that was not assisting the cast's potential talent for convincing me with real-life performances, unlike "other recent live action theatrical releases" with worlds I have been transported to.

Still, I liked the story and visuals and I will pick up the BD 3D.

I watched this today as the UK release date was today. The movie was entertaining enough but as has been said above, the dialogue and jokes are pretty painful at times. Shame as the cast seems more than able to carry smarter dialogue than this. The 3D I would rate as weak to medium. I hope my opinion will change after a second viewing but sadly I've got to say this ranks as one of the lesser 3D Blu's of the year. I was hoping for a bit more depth and whilst the 3D is always solid and never flat, it doesn't quite offer that level of depth that we got with, say Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters.

Oh I need to add that I thought the CG was generally very good and a lot of the creatures looked great. I wasn't crazy about the depiction of Kronos though and he was nowhere near as good as the Kronos in Wrath of the Titans which was fantastic creature design and CG, coupled with great 3D.
