Default Raro enters US market in '11, includes Antonioni's THE VANQUISHED on Blu-ray

Michelangelo Antonioni's film, THE VANQUISHED (I Vinti) appears to be scheduled for release in the US on blu-ray and dvd on March 15th. Here's the listings on DvdAf:

http://www.dvdaf.com/search.html?pub...ub_raro*rgn_us

Other titles include Fellini's THE CLOWNS, THE FERNANDO Di LEO CRIME COLLECTION (4 films), and Barilli's PERFUME OF THE LADY IN BLACK. Raro formerly worked out of Italy, releasing many great horror and other titles. PERFUME... already looked good on the PAL dvd, but apparently more work was done for the US release to restore it (a post from someone at Latarnia who works out of Italy for a company worked on it and said it looked great).

I'd like to see some more DVD/blu-ray companies from overseas penetrate the US market. Hopefully they'll be successful.

It will be cool to see this on BLU... Anyone know what this companies standards are so far for DVD? Would be cool if they can be in the same level as say Blue Underground for BLU. I HOPE :-)

THE VANQUISHED is their first blu-ray release ever -- none in Italy thus far. Here's their catalog via Dvd Af:

http://www.dvdaf.com/search.html?pub...=str0_pub_raro

I have a couple of their dvds and they are very good. Raro generally has released very good quality discs, with some that have been so-so (but that was mostly due to the materials and not their doing). There is very good potential for Raro to release high quality titles here in the US. I'm hopeful anyways.

Fernando Di Leo's films, to the best of my knowledge, are planned as SDVD releases only.

Holy sh*t! This will be mine!

Did not buy the US DVDs as I already owned the original Italian releases, but this is definitely a must buy for me.

Cool! On that dvdaf site it says the MSRP of the Fernando Di Leo is only 49.98 too.

What happened to the I Vinti blu release though? Didn't even know it was planned to have a blu release alongside the dvd release.

USA Michelangelo Antonioni's I Vinti (The Vanquished) (1953) - May 2014

Quote:
Independent distributors Raro Video U.S. have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Michelangelo Antonioni's I vinti a.k.a The Vanquished (1953), starring Franco Interlenghi, Anna Maria Ferrero, Eduardo Ciannelli, Evi Maltagliati, David Farrar, Patrick Barr, and Peter Reynolds. The release is expected to arrive on the market in May 2014.

Challenging linear narrative by weaving multiple story lines and exploring a directorial style way ahead of his time, director Michelangelo Antonioni's unique triptych film features three murders, one taking place in Paris, another in Rome, and another in London. All of the perpetrators are affluent youths, each killing for dubious motives. In the France segment, a group of adolescents kill for money, even though they don't need it; in the London segment, a poet uncovers a woman's body and tries to profit from the discovery; and in the Italian segment, a student becomes caught up in a smuggling ring, with deadly results. With elements that serve as a precursor to Blowup, Antonioni explores how modern society can produce nihilistic tendencies in the least likely characters.

No problem!

I'm really looking forward to it, as well. I finally introduced myself to some of his works these past couple of months and I've loved every one of them. I've very curious how this one is!

I would wait for a review before buying anything off of Raro; I have their blu ray of Conversation Piece and the PQ is so bad it has quite literally been turned into an animated movie.

I'm a huge Antonioni fan, but I've never heard of this one. Sounds a little different than what I'm used to from him. I definitely need to check this one out!
