I've just checked and the US Blu-ray of this has the extended 137 minute version. Does anyone know if this one's likely to have that on, otherwise I'll change my order. The US one's also cheaper as well, I've just noticed

I have the German BD which is 2:16:23. So it's the extended version. It's reformatted from 1:85 : 1 to 1:78 : 1 which I can accept. It is region B locked.

Why do I keep thinking that Julia Roberts is in this?

You're probably confusing it with Steel Magnolias which is crap compared to Fried Green Tomatoes.

Oh right. Do they have similar plots or something? I'm sure i've seen both at some point.

Received mine today. It is the Theatrical cut running 130:02.

Extras:
Cast & crew interviews:
– Play All (37:27)
– Mary Stuart Masterson (2:15)
- Mary Louise Parker (1:33)
– Jessica Tandy (1:49)
– Kathy Bates (2:03)
– director Jon Avnet (1:55)
– author Fannie Flagg (27:47, audio only)
"Remembering Jessica Tandy" featurette (3:19)
Teaser Trailer (4:09)
Theatrical Trailer (2:41, HD)

All in SD apart from the trailer.

PQ is 3 or 3.5/5 territory really. Some aliasing and edge enhancement, blockiness, and light haloing - and IMO, filtering similar to that described of the US release here, but colours are generally strong and some great details.

AQ also pretty good. 3.5/5

Looks like the only way to get both cuts is the German blu-ray.
But I think the extras are the best on the US blu-ray so, I'll just stick with that. (I haven't seen this movie since junior high school, but I remember liking it)

Yeah, but the theatrical is in SD on the German release. Best thing to do is get USA release for one set of extras + the Extended, and the UK release for the Theatrical and the other extras. The extras on the German/UK releases are virtually the same, but the UK adds a long interview with the author, and the German has a 4 minute making of.

From reviews I have read the transfer to BD is pretty average so I think this is one title where I won't be double dipping. I think I'm going to stick to my R1 copy of the Collectors Edition DVD. This has the extended cut, all of the best extras AND a hidden music score, as an easter egg (remember those).
