Die Hard Madness at BB for BD & DVD, but... - Blu-ray Forum

I was at BB at 11 am today. The moment I arrived at the store, there were tons of people leaving and tons walking into the store. I went to the "New Release" section and purchased the last Die Hard Quad on BD. I just stood back and watched the mayhem of people grabbing the BD Die Hard movies and DVD versions. It was insane. So many people were after these titles and I thought of what a blow this is to HD DVD owners. The BD movie sections have increased by another rack which is chocked full of past and recesnt releases. The HD DVD section is a half rack, kind of thin on titles and there was no traffic to be seen in this area at all. Just the sound of a few hold out crickets chirping. It's difficult to articulate, but the excitment and action with scores of people scrambling for their DVDs and BDs of Die Hard titles was amazing to watch. It will be interesting to see what the BD sales numbers will be on these in a few weeks. Glad fox is on our side.

I have said this already but I will say it again the last 2 weeks I have seen a rush towards blu players and movies.

A person commented yesterday while I was at BB that there where more titles on HD DUD than blu. The employee told him that the sales of blu had been so brisk lately they haven't been able to keep the shelves well stocked.

Great news for blu but that just means we now have to make lines for movies too

This definitely seems like the kind of movie that should sell extremely well, especially to PS3 owners. My closest Circuit City was sold out of them, as well as the 40GB PS3's.

You should've informed the person that their is actually about fifty more title on Blu minus the Paramount movies that can still be found.

I wonder what the threads are like in the HD DVD camps when BD gets releases this huge. Are they spewing the FUD and Spin or can you hear the desolate winds blowing across the cold and lonely plains of isolation and despair. Or do I exaggerate?

I've noticed in general how two Best Buys around me have changed the facings of both blu ray and HD DVD. It used to be pretty haphazard. Now each blu ray title has the front facing forward and nearly every HD DVD with just the side strip facing forward. Not only does it give the illusion of there being more of a selection (which A) there is and B) it takes up a lot more shelf space, but it makes it so much easier to shop for your movies. It's almost like HD DVD is an afterthought in these places. Even the Super Target by me has a lot more space devoted to blu than HD DVD.

For those who are wondering and have the ability to take a look, these are in the Charlotte area.

Great news. I hope the end of this 4th quarter really shows some great numbers to warner bros and the rest of the lot that Blu is the clear victor in this war.

I notice this too at the stores I shop at for Blu-rays, the Blu-ray sections are picked over a lot more and the HD-DVD sections are well stocked (because no one is buying them). It's great, but annoying at the same time, because I have to be there early on release day in order to assure myself a copy.

Someone once asked me what would my all-time xmas gift would be, and I said "My own BB store" LOL. I like going there to see people buy blu-ray movies and hdtvs.

This is kind of a catch 22. Yes it is great news for Blu-ray, however, if there is that much demand for paying BB's ridiculous high prices, then there is no incentive for them to lower their prices on BD media.

The revamped rewards program sucks, when it first started that same purchase would have yielded you $90 in reward zone certificates...

That doesn't even include any double or triple point bonuses.

My FUTURESHOP in Ontario (a town of about 56,000) had a huge 8' wide displayer right at the doors with nothing but Die Hard in every format it's available on. And it looked as though the rack had been rigorously depleted. I noticed on the way out of the store that the shelving space which contained Blu-ray and DVD copies when I entered was being restocked with other BD titles. I guess that's a sign that they are selling pretty vampantly at this location.
