Cloverfield Paradox was just recently rated by the MPAA, so many did see this as a sign of the movie getting a proper BD release.
Here's hoping the same treatment occurs for Roma, The Irishman, and The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs (among other Netflix films). I'll wait longer if need be.

Those are all owned by Netflix, but this film’s home video rights stayed with Paramount. I’d be (pleasantly) surprised if those films ever saw disc.

I was just about to post the exact same thing. Since this was an acquisition, Paramount probably had it in the contract that it would be a netflix exclusive for a limited time.

Yeah, it looks like they just had a year-long window. It looks similar to their TV acquisitions like House of Cards, Sabrina, and Fuller House. I wonder what will happen with other feature acquisitions from other studios, like The Babysitter (which Netflix acquired from New Line).

I know Mike Flanagan's Hush was an acquisition from Blumhouse, but Netflix has ownership of that movie for 7 years. Also, never say never on stuff made fully for Netflix, if Netflix themselves released Stranger Things 1 & 2 on disc, then eventually (hopefully) they'll put their movies on disc too.

Overlord isn't part of the Cloververse though, so I don't think they need to be released at the same time.

Hopefully this gets a Best Buy exclusive 4K release like Paramount did with Annihilation.

I'm thinking there may be no digital release as usually digital format/release date are part of these press releases. I could see the deal Paramount worked out with Netflix being a physical release a year later, but remaining exclusive to Netflix for digital viewing.

I hate Netflix for the fact they NEVER release their films on blu-ray, but if they were smart, they would do blu-ray exclusives on films like Bright, Beasts of No Nation, Wheelman and Spectral, since they were hits either with audiences, critics or both, and releasing them solely on blu-ray is a call for putting out their products on the best quality possible, similar to how they handled Stranger Things S2 this year with the 4K release and blu-ray combo, but no DVDs separate from the whole (unlike Stranger Things S1 which had a quiet and awful 4K release). But this could be the turn for them. If Paradox sells well, they might start releasing their Originals, and while Paradox was the least loved of the three (it's far better than the first if you ask me, just for the fact that this is the only movie where tearing a hole in space/time shows what could relatively happen: a total breakdown of physics as we know it and the possibility of every thing to simply be).

I don't see why Netflix can't just make a deal with a studio like (say) Universal to handle home video releases of their original films and shows. It would probably be more easy and simple for them, and they'd still make extra money. Clearly there's a market for selling Netflix and Hulu shows on Blu-ray, otherwise Warner, Sony, Lionsgate, Universal, Paramount, and even Disney wouldn't keep doing it for the shows they stream on those sites.

What Netflix should do is a Twilight Time-style limited Blu release of certain original movies and TV shows, so anyone who wants them "hard-copy" can do so, and anyone else can just stream them. Like a year after they premiere on Netflix, or something. Not an ideal way to do this (especially for anyone who doesn't get a copy before they sell out), but it'd be better than nothing. Just so long as they weren't $30+ a copy. With so many major filmmakers like the Coens and Scorsese releasing their latest films to Netflix, it'd probably be the only way for fans to own physical HD copies.

I'd fork over good money towards something like Apostle, Beasts of No Nation or The Night Comes For Us; Not this.
