Default Trying to put this issue to rest...Blu ray screen shake question...

Hey everyone,

I have an issue that I am just now noticing on my Vizio M-Series m501d-a2r, after the latest firmware update. When playing Blu ray content on my PS3, PS4, or X1 I notice that words on the screen and sometimes the picture is slightly shaking (only during playback, nothing on menus).

I tried to research this issue and I keep finding just extreme cases of screen shaking. Is this shaking just the reality of blu ray content playback that I have never noticed? I am a big perfectionist when it comes to video quality. Also some times I will notice a bit of "flashing" on certain background scenes.

The blu's that I have noticed this on so far after the firmware update are...

Bottle Rocket, Oceans 11, and Prince of Darkness

The funny thing is that I played Bottle Rocket on another player and another tv and also noticed slight shaking, but not as much because it is a smaller tv.

Any help or insight would be much appreciated! I have literally toyed with every display setting on the tv and the players. Just really want to know is this just something that blu ray content does, regardless of tv or player???

THANKS!

Hmm so I just watched Sabotage and it had no shaking at all...is what I am seeing is movies that were originally not shot on HD cameras then remastered for blu have this shaking effect from upscaling from the original reels??

I believe this may be it after looking at that!! It seems to only happen on older movies...I wonder if its the disc or every pressing of the disc?

It's a transfer problem. This happens long before the pressing of the disc. If what you are seeing is indeed telecine wobble, which I think it is, that is something you're going to have to live with, as it's not the disc's fault, nor your equipment. It is especially noticeable on the credit roll, since your eyes focus only on the text. Many a time this is corrected on remasters, but since not all films get a ton of money spent on remasters, a lot of older movies have this problem, even on Blu-Ray.

If its normal I can live with it...I wanted to rule out problems with equipment or settings! Thanks again!

No problem, happy to help. I'm pretty sure that it is indeed telecine wobble, since you mentioned that it happens for the most part with older movies.
If it is, then you need not worry about your equipment. Some wobble is perfectly normal. Some might even call it charming!
