Australia What role do 2nd Hand/Ex Rental copies play in our collection?

Do you guys buy Ex rental discs for your collection? What % or part do they play in your overall collection

This is the first year I have starting buying Ex Rental discs for my collection. Most of them are in very good condition might I add. Its definitely easier to buy a cheapie Blu for $10 to indulge your curiosity too as opposed to spending $7 a nightly rental and being arsed taking it back by the due time.

I guess the main reason is to help make my dollar stretch further. They aren't prominent but they are replacing more main stream stuff that I refuse to pay $30 or more for, stuff I can't be bothered importing, titles I can't find easily, things that will only get watched with mates on drunken film nights or films I might only ever watch once again in the next 5 years. Some examples: Killing me Softly, The Innkeepers, Gantz, Killing Joe, Looper, Evil Dead remake

I've got quite a few, they are definitely good for picking up a cheapie, they probably make up around 5% or so of my collection

Won't buy ex-rentals, as I hate the stickers on the disc. 2nd hand copies are also overpriced in most stores (cheaper to buy a new one from JB a lot of the times).

Happy to buy 2nd hand discs from Cash Converters though. Reasonably priced and from what I've seen, the disc and packaging are often in very good condition. Too bad there isn't one close by for me to check out regularly.

Don't have any 2nd blus yet. But my local video store (an indie) sadly closed down a few months ago. Over the period of about a month I think I bought >100 DVDs from them, by the end a lot for $1. A lot of essential stuff, mostly arthouse/foreign that won't be on blu for ages, and when it is will be expensive. I must have got a half dozen of Godard and Antonioni each, and several Visconti and Dreyer, etc.

I buy ex-rentals very, very rarely. I think I have about 6 or 7 in my entire collection. 6 of which were bought in a closing down sale.

I don't like all the extra stickers on the sleeve which are not removable, the scratches and the missing extra discs (Triple Pack DVD and Digital Copies).

The average price for an ex-rental here in NZ is $19.95, which is absurd.

You gotta get your arse down to Auckland. United Video on Dominion Rd has the biggest collection of blu rays going (i.e. $10-$15). You got to be quick though, as all the good stuff gets eaten pretty quickly. The discs are usually light scratched but play well. I got Man of Steel there recently (the 1 disc edition) for a tenner. You can't beat that, especially when you haven't made your mind up about a film completely yet.

Another good thing that I've found is if you completely hate it. It will resell for the value you got it for, on TradeMe.
