Hey guys, Cannes Film Festival starts today.
List of films in competition and being screened : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Cannes_Film_Festival Live stream of the festival : (Although it doesn't look to have started yet, seems to just be repeating a little trailer/ad/promo on a loop). Let's talk about the films! |

Neon Demon, Loving, Paterson, Cafe Society, The BFG, and that Kristen Stewart movie (can't remember/find the title) all look interesting.
Can't wait to see The Nice Guys, and also curious to see the reception to Money Monster, since the trailers have been abysmal in spite of a promising cast/crew. |

Sadly I'm inclined to agree, but playing at Cannes has me hopeful it'll be a sleeper.

The Neon Demon is the one I'm most excited for, BY FAR. Refn, Fanning (who I think is one of the best young actresses in existence), and the whole concept have me pumped to see this.
That being said, I'm really looking forward to Café Society by Woody Allen. It looks highly entertaining and has a great cast. I have absolutely no idea if Hands of Stone (about Roberto Duran, starring DeNiro as his coach) will be any good. But it's a moment in sports history that I remember vividly. So, I am curious as to what the word of mouth is. The Unknown Girl by the Dardennes sounds fascinating. Definitely looking forward to that, or at least to the reaction. Personal Shopper by Olivier Assays could be something. Lots of people don't like Kristen Stewart, but I think she's a quality actress. |

HA! What am I not excited for? I look forward to reading reviews for: American Honey, Elle, The Handmaiden, It's Only the End of the World, Julieta, Loving, The Neon Demon, Paterson, Personal Shopper, The Salesman, Sieranevada, Slack Bay, Toni Erdmann, and The Unknown Girl. And, those are just the films in competition for the Palm d'Or, I didn't even look at the films competing in the Un Certain Regard section.
Oh, what I wouldn't give to attend this festival! Someday. ![]() |

But, of the directors with films in competition this year, the Dardenne brothers, Ken Loach, and Christina Mungiu have all won the award in previous years. The Dardenne brothers have won the award twice, so they are the favorite to win. |
