Default older Anime titles?

Why is there not a company releasing any of the older "classic" titles like

Fist of the North Star
Tokyo Babylon
Doomed Megalopolis
Venus Wars
Macross II
Dominion Tank Police
Wicked City

etc etc

I would love to see these on Blu eventually

Discotek is (has?) released Fist of the North Star. DVD only though. But if anyone's going to do it, it'll be them. Also they released a new edition of The Venus Wars on DVD (ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN!) I've been hoping they're release a Blu-ray of it for ages. Venus Wars is one of my favorite anime films ever.

Macross II is unlikely due to licensing nonsense (thanks Harmony Gold!)

As for the rest? Who knows. DiscoTek and Sentai Filmworks are the likely candidates for stuff like that, so its down to them feeling like its worth it and if Japan has released Blu-rays themselves for new masters.

Typically you’ll have to wait for the Japanese side of things to scan the film elements in HD first. The majority of your list has had no such work done.
Macross II will see a BLU release in July I believe, though as Jim Purcell already stated, the Harmony Gold situation will likely prevent it from leaving Japanese shores.
Venus Wars is certainly HD, just not progressive. A Discotek BLU could be possible I suppose, though they've made no indication in doing so as of yet.
You just have to be willing to play the waiting game I'm afraid.

New Dominion Tank Police was released on DVD by Maiden Japan in America since I remember it being shown on Anime Network not to long ago even though its not the original series.

As for Blu-ray for any part of the series, probably be awhile

With the success (so far) of AnimEigo's Bubblegum Crisis kickstarter, hopefully they will do another kickstarter for another classic series.

Nozomi Entertainment has released Space Adventure Cobra on DVD in a new master, and they are releasing Cat's Eye, as well on DVD. Since these shows are available on Blu-ray in Japan, it's a shame Nozomi didn't do the same.

Unfortunately, I think the market for these classic anime on Blu-ray has been small up to now, but it looks like that is starting to change with the success of the Bubblegum Crisis kickstarter and Discotek starting to take the plunge.

Sometimes things just take time. Just like how there is now an explosion of 70/80s horror coming to Blu-ray. Sometimes it just takes the right label to re-spark an interest, and the rest will follow. And of course, as a fan, make your demand known!

Nozomi aka Rightstuf have never once released a Blu-ray yet of any of their series and they have at least a few titles that could. But for whatever reason have not.

I could kill 100 armed men for a good Blu-Ray release of the original Berserk series. I think one came out in Japan, but a US release seems unlikely.

Would also love to see the original Evangelion and End of Evangelion, Iria, Battle Angel, both Vampire Hunter D movies, some of the anthology-type movies (Memories, NeoTokyo), and probably plenty of others.

Not sure about some of the shows from the 00s though; as much as I'd love to see something like the first Full Metal Alchemist series and Gantz released on BD, I'm not sure if they were animated in HD or not.

At least The Cowboy Bebop is destined for the near future.

I imagine Nozomi hasn't released anything on Blu-ray just because of the cost. It reportedly costs 6x more to press a Blu-ray than a DVD, which has forced many independent video labels to still only release on DVD in order to make a profit in small markets.

I would like to see them release Utena on blu-ray. It has a good BD release in Japan now, but only the movie is English-friendly.

Most of the time, you have to wait until there is a blu-ray release in Japan for a Western release to be announced. One exception is the Street Fighter II anime movie, which first got a proper BD release in France and the UK.

If I ever hit one of those insanely huge lottos I'd be converting and releasing so many animes and quality movies to 4k with nice lossless audio your head would spin.

It'd like to see Utena on blu-ray too (among many older series that I'm not even going to bother mentioning now...)

I think rightstuf was looking to hire someone who can author BDs (either posted on their facebook or website, I forgot)...so maybe it's a sign they will release BDs in the distant future.

Endless Waltz is out on Blu-ray in Japan, so we should see an American release once someone picks up the rights to all of these Mobile Suit Gundam series since Bandai America is gone.

I could have swore Sunrise announced a partnership with one of the NA distributors. But I've not seen any result from it.

The whole Gundam franchise has almost already been released on Blu-ray in Japan (sans G Gundam, and complete versions of 0080 War in the Pocket, and 0083 Stardust Memory OVA series), so you can only imagine that if Bandai hadn't gone belly up, many of these, including Endless Waltz, would probably have already be released on Blu-ray in the US. Now it's up to the remaining NA distributors to release everything, so as to who will get the distro rights? Well, if Funimation indeed does, which seems likely as they are the last big company left, hopefully we won't be getting half assed, poorly encoded, bitrate starved, fast money milking attempts at Blu-ray releases. And as for Trigun, just as chronoclast has explained many times before, it is very unlikely going to happen anytime soon because it hasn't has an HD telecine transfer from the film elements; which is a very costly expense to do. I have a feeling it will come around sometime eventually though.
Well Viz Media is a very good sized company and Section 23 is a big company(or at least acts like it by having so many different divisions). But I will say Funimation is the most likely candidate(or will at least try to release as much as they can).

I recall the absence of Gundam in Sunrise's announcement last year being the big hushed elephant in the room.

Maybe we'll see something happen this year.
