From the article
"Most of the titles are being up-converted from existing standard definition masters to high definition, not remastered from the original negatives. In many cases, the original film elements are not available, though RMW believes they will still achieve a quality result. RMW will also restore the audio of many of the titles" |

So Lowry's moved into the up-conversion business? The article doesn't mention who's releasing these or why these titles. Did they make a deal with a studio?
Would be amusing if they're up-converting the old SD masters of the original unaltered Star Wars Trilogy for Blu-ray. ![]() |

There's a thread already discussing that article: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ht=+third+man+
They say most of these will just be SD upscales. Hardly promising stuff. |

Sadly it might have nothing at all to do with blu-ray, and probably be more for iTunes or streaming - where they are obviously less concerned with quality. I don't have a problem with this if it's a separate thing just to rapidly improve a bulk of previously unavailable titles for streaming |

Yes, I doubt any of this will result in genuine 1080p Blu-rays. Not that anyone wants upconverts on BD anyway. Perhaps they are planning a few 20 (or whatever) film sets crammed onto a couple of discs, like those PD collection monstrosities that have already been released?

So are Notorious and The third man, but all those movies are hardly new to DVD and Blu-ray. The article did not mention Casablanca, The wizard of Oz and Gone with the wind as "new to DVD and Blu-ray" but could have, as poorly researched and written as it is !

You can't get definition where it doesn't exist, but I guess it's better than nothing |
