Default Trading Up to BluRay (from DVD)?

Just curious if anyone had any advice on where to trade in DVDs for store credit / cash?

I have about 75 DVDs that I'd like to trade in and use the money towards expanding my Blu-ray collection. According to FYE, I can trade in my entire collection for $86 which seems like a good deal (minus my complete series of Ghost Whisperer which is worth $20 and may keep), but does anyone have any other suggestions on where to trade/sell?

Would it be more profitable to sell them individually on eBay?

Just curious if anyone else had any experience. Thanks!

I've had (mostly) great experiences selling on Amazon.

The thing is, Amazon charges a $0.99 fee per item sold, and honestly I feel like most used DVDs are only worth a little more than that.

If you have the time I'd say eBay, but if not there are pawn shop and other media/ memorabilia stores that'll buy them. Just did it yesterday for a bunch of old stuff

It depends on how much work you want to put in.

I think averaging over a $1 per dvd is very respectable at this point.

Just double check which ones will yield more than $3 net (so if you use paypal shipping and do your own packing....you are looking at 2.20 roughly in shipping and materials per dvd plus 12.5% in ebay/paypal fees).

For reference, $6 shipped on ebay is my lowest price point (I yield $3 at this worst case scenario). Anything lower than that and I just trade it in to Buybacks for $2 or so.

So either pull the ones that are worth the hassle to you or just be done at once.

I would just dump the whole lot and start over.

However, I would give the whole lot for a $100 on craigslist for a few days and see if you get any bites after you pull the expensive set.

Here BB and Future Shop sometimes have "trade and save" where you can bring in any DVD and you get 5$ off the BD you buy from the eligible titles. Don't know if BB in the US does the same or how much of a discount they give

Thanks for the breakdown! I love the Craigslist idea for the ones that aren't worth that much. Is there a quick and easy way to check the values if I have access to all the UPC's? I know FYE lets me but I don't know how accurate they are.

I remember a few times that Best Buy has done that here and I SERIOUSLY regret not taking advantage of it. That would have worked out great for me.

Just type them in on amazon while you watch tv or something.

Almost all big release movies on dvd are near worthless so they would be good for a lot.

Do you have any used cd/dvd stores in your area? I have one in my area and I get around $3 per dvd that I trade in (for store credit, probably around $2-$2.50 if I want cash instead of store credit).

I had a very bad experience at a local store called Mr. K's used books and movies. I brought all my DVDs in and wanted to find out about one of my sets of a TV Series separately but they told me it was only 1 transaction per person per week. So I went ahead and let him price everything. After about 15 minutes he told me he could do $40 for the whole collection of 75+ movies. I asked what the tv series rang up as but he told me he'd have to add them all up again to find out (no idea why). I asked him too just because I was pretty frustrated at that point but he said he was going on his break and couldn't. So I ended up just taking it all and leaving. The workers gave me such a dirty look.

I was trying to be nice and trade them to a local business but they were so rude with me about it that I took them all to FYE and sold them there for about $10 less. They were so much nicer about it and went through each of the movies in front of me and the ones that rang up less than a dollar they gave back.

So moral of the story, just because a business is local does not mean they are worthy of my business, haha.
