Coming from Network in June http://networkonair.com/shop/1926-qu...626706043.html A very good adaptation of the book by Adam Hall, looking forward to this on blu.
Network were a bit quiet last year but they seem to be waking up now with a promising lineup of new titles, sadly Slayground is only getting a DVD release |

Pleased about this, but it just makes me wonder when we'll get 'Funeral in Berlin' or 'The Billion Dollar Brain'?

Ditto, i have a fondness for these mid to late 60s spy thrillers e.g the Harry Palmer movies, Quiller Memorandum, A Deadly Affair, A Dandy in Aspic etc

Personally i loved it...A bit slow to start with but turns out to be one of the better spy movies of the period.

Watched the Blu-ray yesterday. The PQ is downright atrocious. Wasn't there a better source available? It looks like the transfer was made from a theatrical print with excessive noise (doesn't look like grain to me), flawed contrast and black levels and washed out colors.

Quiller has never had much luck on home video in the UK - the first Carlton DVD issue had serious edge enhancement problem while Network's subsequent special edition DVD went in the other direction with a lack of detail, with some shots appearing out of focus and faces tending to be flattened. Sadly, Network's new Blu-ray release is much more disappointing - there's more detail, but there's also a LOT of digital noise, most noticeable in the film's many night scenes where it swirls around like snow: on balance, I'd recommend sticking with their DVD and hoping that the film might get a better release in another territory the future.
Very disappointing indeed - I sent my copy back for a refund. ![]() Last edited by Aclea; 07-31-2014 at 04:55 PM. |

I'm not put off ordering new releases but I guess the watch words are proceed with caution. I would think if there is already a decent Blu-ray release out there you're probably ok as they are likely to source from the same master. However, with movies that have never had a decent dvd or blu-ray release I would be less certain.

The Carlton DVD was terrible with too much edge enhancement. The Network DVD went in the other direction - pretty soft with loss of detail in some shots but better than the Carlton DVD and still preferable to all the digital noise in the night scenes on the Blu-ray. I've not seen Fox's US DVD, which may have come from a different master. I returned the bluray for a refund and am holding on to he Network DVD - it's not perfect, but at least it doesn't look like the film is set at Christmas
