Default Is PSIII 0r XBOX-360 a Bluray player?

Hello, this is my first post and I'M sorry if this topic has been asked a ka-zillion times, but I'M looking to see if the PSIII or XBOX 360 will act as an Bluray player?

If so, then what cables will I need to buy for ether consol?

I have a remote control for the 360, but not for the PSIII.

PS3 plays blu-ray movies, you can use a HDMI cable if your TV accepts HDMI...if not, use the usual component

Nothing against you TheCulliganMan, but this post, if it truly is an honest to goodness question, is indicative of what a crappy job Sony is doing of getting the word out.

As for if is isn't an honest question... I wonder how TheCulliganMan can ready ANY thread on this board, and fail to see that about 2/3s of the signatures show PS3s as peoples primary BD player... Hmmm.... Top that off with a sticky thread over in the "Blu-ray Players and Recorders" sub-forum titled "The PS3 Review Thread"

TheCulliganMan, if you are truly new, and do not know, welcome, you will be able to get a wealth of information here.... on the other hand, if you are a troll (and I am NOT calling you one) please do not waste our time or our bandwidth.

Iceman, It was a legit question for me. I didn't read threw the whole forum, just mainly wanted to get to the bottom of it ASAP.

I did notice the PSIII thread and looked threw it for a bit, but didn't know if anything other then a cable was needed.

Thanks for the welcome tho...

Quick question, what would be a very good Bluray movie to get as my first purchase to show what the Bluray disc can do?

I would like to get 1 action and 1 drama for the wife.

There is tons of threads and even a section on the main page regarding BD movies and PQ/AQ.
The search function is your friend

Either of the "pirates of the carribean" movies, or "crank" will show off blu-ray.

Check out this link. It is the new tier thread for blu ray by picture quality over on the OTHER forum... yes, there can be come real pieces of work over there, but the tier thread is one worth bookmarking.

Rather than wade through recommendations of movies which may look good, but are lacking in other respects (crank comes to mind) you can use the listing to pick something you like, which will show off your system.

Personally, I was amazed by how well Ratatoulie looked, and was not a bit surprised to find it at the top of the tier listing.

This said, I MUST get in my recommendations

Action - Spiderman 3
Drama - If its for the wife, Phantom of the Opera - The colors are amazing, and the brilliance of the picture pops at times
Drama with action - Kingdom of heaven

Dear CulliganMan, yes, the xbox360 can play blurays with a special add-on. That special add-on is called a PS3 console. Just buy the PS3 console, plug it in right next to the xbox360, and then put all the bluray movies you want into the PS3. That's the good thing about the xbox360. You can put all kinds of add-ons and upgrade it to play hi-definition movies.

The Xbox 360 only supports HD-DVD with a add-on drive costing additional money, just to clear it up since he's new to Blu-ray. I still believe that they'll soon be releasing a Blu-ray add-on drive once they realize how much money and time is wasted on a product that's already starting to outgrow itself!

If they ever get HD51 out it'll be like a person with frostbite on one leg, they'll cut HD-DVD off to become a healthier product but still be handicapped compared to BD100!

Yes and no, I bought both for my son when they first came out. But it looks like I may need to confiscate the PSIII till the Bluray players come down in price a little...

I'M running out to get the HDMI cable and the PSIII remote.
