Around April, there was an ITunes offer for the Madagascar Trilogy (HD), which I purchased.
They are all showing up in my ITunes account and I have been streaming them for the kids via Apple TV. Over the weekend, I tried to play Madagascar 3, but it no longer has the "Play" option. Now it says "Buy HD" at $14.99. The other 2 movies play fine. I emailed Apple and their reply was: Please know that the content provider removed the copy of the movie which was purchased by you or modified it in some way that you aren’t able to re-download. We apologize for we are not able to get you a new copy once it is removed or modified. I previously had a digital copy of Madagascar 3, before I purchased the trilogy. So I have effectively purchased this movie twice and cannot stream on Apple TV. I could buy it a third time, but if I do and it is modified again, I may not be able to stream it again. Would be grateful for suggestions. |

I would get in touch with DreamWorks (or whomever distributed the title) directly. (My digital copy of Madagascar 3 shows up fine on my Apple TV, FWIW.)
Here's an example that happened to me. I purchased the Dark Knight Trilogy on iTunes a while back. When the fancy new iTunes Extras came out, my copy of The Dark Knight didn't have them. It turns out that when I purchased the trilogy, Warner sold me a copy that they now no longer offered in the US store. My Dark Knight is now only available to purchase in the UK. There is a new US copy in the US store, but I didn't own that one and iTunes Support gave me the same response. Fortunately, one of the folks in this forum happened to work for Warner and was able to get them to flag the iTunes Extras associated with my UK copy as available in the US, and all was well. But why did Warner even sell me a UK copy in the US store, and why didn't they shift the purchases of all those US customers to the new version of the content? So these studios are sometimes careless and boneheaded about what content they make available in which country and change those rules after customers have purchased it. It's quite possible your purchase of Madagascar 3 is no longer flagged as available in your country. Now it's up to you to hunt down and figure out how to get a studio to correct the issue. It's stupid. Nobody should have to rebuy content especially for this reason. Good luck. |

A similar thing happened with LA Confidential - I have a copy I bought (and can re-download from Purchased) in the US store, but the one you get when you search for LA Confidential now is a new one (with 5.1 soundtrack and maybe other features). Turns out companies are now doing digital 're-releases' rather than updating old files - a shame, as updating of old files countered some of the losses incurred by investing in a locked-down non-resellable digital file.
manutd123, I'm guessing from what you said that you search for Madagascar 3 on the store and therefore get the 'buy' option on the 'new' release... Have you tried looking/searching through your Purchased tab on the AppleTV to try and find the 'old' release of the film there? |

Yeah, this was how it all started, I was looking in the purchased section and could not find it, so I went to the iTunes store section and searched for it in order to press "Play" but instead it said "Buy HD" and I thought wtf.
![]() Their most recent replies are: I would like to let you know that the movie bundle, and hence the movies, you purchased is no longer available on the iTunes Store. The movies you purchased were already modified since you last purchased it, and that is why you are being prompted to pay for it again. Thank you for your understanding. If you have other queries regarding the iTunes Store, please reply to this email and I will be glad to assist you. and I understand your frustration that the iTunes Store could not make available your purchases for your viewing even though the movie was “purchased” twice on the account. I'm sorry that movies you purchased are no longer available on the iTunes Store. I've sent an email to paramount and will see what they say. |
