Default From Crystal Lake to Manhattan: The Friday The 13th Audio Appreciation Thread

I'm not sure how many of us actually watch these films for the audio. Still, as a fan of the series (I-VIII), I thought I'd try and catalog all the available audio options on either Blu or DVD that exist for each entry.

Feel free to chime in if I'm missing something. I will try to update this page if more editions or options are released.

Each film's original theatrical mix is listed in bold directly beneath the title.

Audio mixes currently available on blu-ray are highlighted in blue and contain the date the blu was released.

Audio mixes available on prior DVD editions are left alone in black text, along with the release date I referenced.

Notes for any of the film's audio mixes are highlighted in red.

Let's head to camp, shall we...

FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980)
Original Theatrical Mix: Mono
Dolby Digital Mono 2/3/09 Uncut Blu
Dolby TrueHD 5.1 2/3/09 Uncut Blu

Dolby Digital 2.0 10/19/99 DVD Possibly a remastering of the original mono mix?
Dolby Digital 5.1 9/30/14 Wal-Mart DVD

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 (1981)
Original Theatrical Mix: Mono
Dolby Digital Mono 6/16/09 Blu
Dolby TrueHD 5.1 6/16/09 Blu

Dolby Digital 2.0 10/17/00 DVD Possibly a remastering of the original mono mix?
Dolby Digital 5.1 1/1/13 DVD

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3-D (1982)
Original Theatrical Mix: Mono
Dolby Digital Mono 6/16/09 Blu
Dolby TrueHD 5.1 6/16/09 Blu

Dolby Digital 5.1 2/3/09 DVD

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART IV: THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984)
Original Theatrical Mix: Mono
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 9/8/15 Double Feature Blu
Dolby Digital Mono 10/17/00 DVD
Dolby Digital 2.0 1/1/13 DVD Possibly a remastering of the original mono?
Dolby Digital 5.1 1/1/13 DVD
NOTES: Per IMDB, a few sound cues are missing from the Dolby Digital Mono mix on the 2000 Paramount DVD. These include cues as the Final Chapter title bursts, a missing cue during the "corkscrew in the hand" scene and a missing cue during Sara's ax death. I will look for these on my DVD and try to add the running times where they occur...

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING (1985)
Original Theatrical Mix: Mono
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 9/8/15 Double Feature Blu
Dolby Digital Mono 9/25/01 DVD
Dolby Digital 2.0 9/25/01
Dolby Digital 5.1 9/30/14 Wal-Mart Double Feature DVD
NOTES: The fact that the 2001 Paramount DVD offers both a Dolby Digital Mono AND a Dolby Digital 2.0 leads me to believe that the 2.0 mixes for all the above entries differ from the "original mono" tracks of the films. Hopefully someone can confirm this.

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES (1986)
Original Theatrical Mix: Ultra Stereo
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 9/8/15 Double Feature Blu
Dolby Digital 2.0 2001 DVD
Dolby Digital 5.1 9/30/14 Wal-Mart Double Feature DVD

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD (1988)
Original Theatrical Mix: Ultra Stereo
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 9/8/15 Double Feature Blu
Dolby Digital 2.0 2001 DVD
Dolby Digital 5.1 1/1/13 DVD

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN (1989)
Original Theatrical Mix: Ultra Stereo
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 9/8/15 Double Feature Blu
Dolby Digital 2.0 9/3/02 DVD
Dolby Digital 5.1 1/1/13 DVD

Feel free to let me know if you have uncovered any added sound effects or syncing discrepancies between the various mixes. As much as I love this series, I've never done a track by track listen to the audio mixes to see how they differ. But maybe I should!

Thanks for reading. I will add some further notes for each film in the near future.
