Default Striking inconsistencies in sale of hd dvd's

This is Amazon's sales rankings when you click on the all time circle of the top 10 movies on both formats. Notice how blu-ray is so stable, while hd dvd sales look like the lie detector test results of someone who's guilty.

Strange, if you close one eye and squint a bit the black line looks like its says HD DVD blows goats in Greek

both formats have an upward trend line, which is good.

HD DVD has to depend on new releases to get sales. Blu-ray proved that it can sell a decent amount of catalog titles regularly.

I have noticed this too. The BD sales are always more stable and stronger, while the HD-DVD sales fluctuate wildly and are usually weaker.
Yes they are both making headway, but I can't see why anyone would not notice this huge sales issue. HD-DVD is an unpredictable, wild horse that is not a good bet. Stable and strong wins the race.

I think part of the problem is that the sales rankings should probably really be more of a logrithmic scale, not a linear scale. So rankings that are higher-numbered (less sales) have a lot more noise in the data.

To put it another way, the difference in sales between #500 and #550 is probably miniscule, whereas the difference between #1 and #51 is pretty vast. But on the graph, they appear the same.

So part of the reason the BD line is more stable is simply because its higher.

But I think its also true that HD-DVD owners are more "hard-core" buyers who tend to buy new releases as soon as they come out and pounce on sales, whereas on average BD buyers are more "normal" folk who might not follow the release schedule day-by-day and buy more sporadically, which leads to a sales rhythm that's more level, in the long run.
