Default Trouble seeing 3d in certain BD's??

Hi all,

Ok so I used to think 3D was just a gimmick like many had said, BUT after getting a new 3D TV I finally was able to watch and be BLOWN away by 3D BD's, wow so impressed. I have MANY 3D BD's now BUT the problem is that I find I don't see 3D well on some releases where it actually disorients my eyes in some ways.

To preface, my vision isn't great to say the least, I wear an 8.00 contact in my left eye and a 7.50 in my right. So, right off the bat I know my eyes are different prescriptions so they aren't "even" by normal standards.

I can't fully explain the "issues" i have with certain movies, other than to say that text is hard to read when it's in the center area of the screen, some dramatic pop-out effects seems blurry or almost make me feel I'm "cross-eyed" or they can't be resolved by my eyes but I know they're there. It's hard to explain completely almost like my eyes can't fully process everything that is going on in the more dramatic 3D moments, like certain parts of the screen are clear and others blurry, it feels almost like a motion sickness/funhouse kinda thing in those instances.

For example, I watched Gravity and it was 100% fine I saw everything no issues with all the effects, but then I popped in Under the Sea IMAX and my eyes were bugging out almost like it was too much. Like in the very beginning with the credits rolling in I couldn't read them comfortably, saw doubled lettering. It seems the standard movies are fine as I can see those, just the really aggressive 3D like Under the Sea, Deep Sea, Sammy's Adventure 2, I have an issue with.

Does anyone have this problem? I have 3 different pairs/brands of glasses and I still have the issue no matter what pair I'm wearing. My gf also had the same issue, she wears glasses but her eyes are a lot better than mine, I thought that was odd as her prescription is "even" for both eyes.

I just find it odd I can see normal BD movies but feel I am missing out on the IMAX ones, it's a bummer!

Thanks for the reply, I am using active lenses, my tv is a new Samsung 7150 and I am playing the BD's through a PS4 and an Xbox One both are solid 3D players. It's frustrating to say the least that I'm not getting the "full" experience but I was very suprised my gf also was having the same trouble since she is more the norm vs me with extremely bad eyesight. I can't imagine everyone like her having the issues with the extreme 3D discs like A Turtles Tale and all the IMAX ones.

I do see a majority of the effects in those extreme discs but there is also a lot of discomfort when those "busy" moments come on and like I mentioned I feel like I'm going cross-eyed.

I've never been able to watch the shot-in-3D IMAX docs either. It's just an issue of too much image separation, as far as I can tell. Some people can handle it but it always gives me a headache and "falls apart." The good news is that most narrative 3D movies don't approach that level of extreme depth.

Active 3d glasses are hard on the eyes, and doing 2 movies in one sitting while give headaces and eye strains. I went with passive for this reason

Gravity is a fairly mild 3D experience whereas the IMAX documentaries are spectacularly awesome. I watched IMAX Space Station the other day and was blown away by the extraordinary sense of depth (which incidentally shows up Gravity for how weak it actually is in 3D, being set in space and all), and for me that's what 3D's all about. But everyone's eyes aren't the same and we all have different tolerances for this stuff, so I wouldn't dwell too much on it OP.

Thanks all for the input on this.

What some of you are describing is exactly what is happening the "doubling" etc. It's a real shame as the minute after I saw Gravity I went out and bought a ton of the IMAX BD's and tracked down A Turtle's Tale import and now I can't enjoy them because of this problem. I thought I read somewhere you can "train" your eyes to see this over time, maybe I'm wrong. I wouldn't say I get a headache when watching these but moreso I get some slight motion disorientation during those extreme scenes and my eyes are trying to work super hard to resolve them.

I have never seen a passive 3D movie, would I have these issues with that 3D tech?

Probably, that's how I've seen the IMAX flicks and I still couldn't watch them. The glasses tech doesn't change the amount of separation onscreen, which is the real issue.

Try checking the 3d settings on your TV , Some sets you can adjust the depth of the 3D, I think it does this by adjusting how long each frame is displayed. Might work for you. IMax is usually Very deep 3d so you might want to back it off a bit.

Yes, I have tinkered with the setting on my TV, it helps just a tad but I can still see the double on these extreme 3D movies. Is there a 3D BD player that actually has its own set of 3D setting I feel like if I combined them with my TV's setting I may just be able to line the images up so that it's cohesive.
