can anyone please comment on the quality of this release and also whether french subs are forced?

Thanks To Echo Bridge, the US release is stuffed.

It's been properly done in France. Check out the review on EcranLarge. Proper aspect ratio and a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 English track.

Compare this to this.
The second is clearly the best.

. . . looks good - do you have any idea regarding the Region Code or Region Freeness of the French disc . . .

kynch,

second screenie link does not work but I'll take your word for it as it's not ard to beat what Echo Bridge looks to have put out.

The question then, as is usually the case for french releases, forced subs?

I've checked on Blu-ray Region Code Info and it seems that all BAC releases have been region free. EcranLarge states Region B, but that's because they don't really test them for outside of that region.

Sorry about that, just click the EcranLarge link I posted and see for yourself.

Also on the link I put right above your quote, it seems that all the International releases by BAC Video have had forced French subtitles when playing a movie in something else than French. :/

The frame is cropped down from scope to 1.78:1 and the PQ leaves a lot to be desired.

I have the German edition, should be the same as the French one. 1080/24p, 2.35:1, DTS-HD MA 5.1 English, German and French, optional subs French and German.
Audio commentary by James Gray, deleted scenes, Behind the scenes & Visualizing The Yards (appr. 12 minutes each) and Remembering The Yards (31 minutes).
Compared to the R1 unrated DVD, you lose the second commentary (James Gray & Steven Soderbergh), the trailer and a picture gallery.
PQ: reasonably sharp, fine grain layer, a bit of black crush. All said, this looks good to my eyes, this film has always been a bit hazy with somehow muted colours.
AQ: nothing special, this is mostly dialogue driven, don't expect too much.

Comes on a B-locked BD-50 with menus available in French and German. Audio and subs can't be changed on the fly, you have to go via the main menu.

hope this helps.
