Default Daria: The Animated Series (coming to DVD in May)

From TVShowsOnDVD:
Quote:
Since last summer we've known that MTV and Paramount Home Entertainment is preparing a 2010 DVD release for the animated series Daria, the 1997 spin-off of Beavis and Butt-head. This morning Paramount has officially announced the title, giving us a release date of:

May 11, 2010

Daria - The Complete Animated Series on DVD will, according to the studio, contain "ALL FIVE SEASONS PLUS BOTH MOVIES!" The running time is 1606 minutes (almost 27 hours!), and video is listed as full screen. Audio specs haven't been provided yet, nor do we have pricing or package art so far. But for now here's a list of the bonus material that will be found on the set, and please stay tuned for updates!
  • Pilot - Sealed With a Kick
  • Music Video: Mystik Spiral Music Video "Freakin' Friends"
  • Daria Day Intros
  • Top Ten Video Countdown Hosted by Daria & Jane
  • Cast & Crew Interviews
  • Never Before-Seen Mystik Sprial spin-off script
No Blu-ray announcement, but as an avid fan, this announcement is long overdue. It goes without saying that this is a first-day purchase for me.

I've been waiting for this since it went off the air, first day purchase for me as well. Shame about the music they had to change, but hopefully they'll do a decent job replacing it like the did for The State.

Awesome news! I loved this show. Too bad it's not Blu-ray but I doubt it would really make much difference since it's a cartoon (and not CGI).

Already up for preorder at DVD Empire.

MSRP $69.99. That's quite good for an 8-disc set - although I'm so spoiled by BD pricing that I'll have to try not to think it's only DVD.

Do you think they got the licensing for all the music they played on the original episodes? I remember they used to play clips of some really cool punk songs in between scenes.

Supposedly they couldn't afford (or wouldn't pay for) all the original music, but the music they had to cut will be replaced by covers and/or sound-alikes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Lack of original music is unfortunate, but not unexpected. I haven't seen this show in YEARS, so I probably won't notice music being changed, so long as it has the traditional theme, as Sussudio put it, "La La Laaaaaa La La."

I really thought this would never happen though. Different music is better than nothing.

Securing the original music rights would have bumped up the MSRP considerably, so alternative music tracks would have been unavoidable. Like Afrobean, it has been years since I've seen an episode, so any musical changes would likely go unnoticed.

this is one of my all time favorite cartoons and easily the best thing that MTV ever did. I don't even care if it ever comes to Blu Ray I am just happy it's out period.

Wonder if the DVDs are in the wrong framing (not zoomed in as much as they should be a lot of the time), because in the later seasons you keep seeing the foregrounds stop ahead of the backgrounds.

Examples:

Some of the episodes in the last season seem wrongly pitched. Voices buzz. Seems to depend on the voice. At 9:40 in Aunt Nauseam for example, but that last season is riddled.

I love this series, watched it many times. Would like a blu ray release but only if they keep all the special features, movies, etc.
