Default How to spot a Vizio knock off?

A very good neighbor of ours has three Vizio TVs (2 80ins & 1 75in) in factory boxes sealed up that they claim they got from a worker of theirs, who in turn claims he bought them off a truck driver who needed to sell his leftover inventory.

The TVs are being sold to us for a good deal, about $800 each, the 75in a little cheaper, but I'm worried they are knock offs.

How can I spot if they are knock off TVs?

If they're not knockoffs, they're probably hotter than the surface of the sun. Nothing kosher ever comes directly off the back of a truck.

Not many truck drivers I know have 80" TVs they just need to get rid of. My next question would be if they are stolen or not.

There's something I didn't notice before, but there's a serial sticker on the side that says they are refurbished. Now I am certainly worried they have a totally different inside. Any way of telling if the case is just a shell and there's different parts on the inside without opening it up?

Oh, and they are 70in and 65in, not 75 and 80. That's my mistake.

And apparently it's not uncommon, from what I've understood, that some truck drivers sell left over inventory to clear out room. I may have just phrased the practice wrong.

Okay, I'm an idiot, and I misheard the whole thing. Turns out they are refurbished televisions from Sears.

This thread is a fitting example of why so many forum contributors don't use their real name.

Knock-offs? No. Stolen? Almost definitely.

Truck drivers don't own their inventory. They deliver for others who own the inventory. These "fell off" the truck.

If these were stolen and Vizio knows the serial numbers, don't expect warranty service. Even if they don't know the serial numbers, you won't have a dealer's receipt.

It appears this was a misapprehension on the OP's part, so I'll go ahead and close this one. Thanks ~ QM
