Watch first or buy first? Where do you stand and why?

I was wondering how some of you accumulate your BD collection. When I committed to blu ray I told myself I would watch every movie before making a decision to purchase. Now that I'm two weeks into my collection, I'm considering even watching movies that I've seen before on blu-ray because I haven't been too impressed with the hi def transfers of some of the movies I've seen so far. I've also been using the reviews here and at hidef digest as a tool to determine whether a movie I've seen before and enjoyed should be added to my collection. Is what I'm doing cost effective? Do some of you take all of this into consideration as well before purchasing? If not, why?
