Option 1 as 2/3/4 mean nothing to me.

I'm leaning towards #4 as well, though luckily up to now I have always been able to import 3-d disney titles whenever I've wanted something that wasn't available domestically.

But I think another important development is the continued release (so far!) of many classic/catalog titles from the 50s and 80s that most people had never had a chance to watch in 3-D before...

That's very true of the classic vintage 3D releases

It's not just the "boutique labels" as Warner has released 3 50's 3D movies so far!

I'd say the Disney thing is the WORST thing to happen with the format so far.

#1 is a very good one
#4 is a very bad one

#3 is of no concern as there are still 3D titles on the shelves around here in Walmart,Best Buy & FYE to start.

The one with the biggest impact would be #4.

#4 has the most impact to me, personally. Looks like it's running away with it on this poll as well, so obviously I'm not alone in this thinking.

Vintage 3D being released by major studios is one of the best things to happen to BD3D. The boutique studio discs are nice too, but with the exception of Inferno, the best movies have been distributed by Warner and Universal.

Disney withdrawing full support is probably the worst thing to happen, ranking just above the early hardware exclusive deals.

I couldn't care less what retailers display in their stores. They will always jump from trend to trend with the newest technology.

The majority of import titles have always rivaled the quality of domestic U.S. titles, even with 2D Blu-ray. Often independents have an easier time finding distribution in other countries, so there will always be a larger selection if you're willing to look internationally.

But that is the only way that most consumers will even know 3D exists. Since there is no advertising or promotion for 3D, having it absent at retail guarantees very low sales. And that's never good for the format...as the industry will never accept that THEY screwed things up. Out-of-sight, out-of-mind

3DTVs and projectors are still on the shelves, and 3D is still listed under product features for anyone looking. It's been around for five years, and stores need room for the new technology demos, which are now 4K. I can't blame them for replacing the 3D demos and wouldn't expect any different. Most people are aware that 3D exists in theaters. If they aren't aware that 3D exists at home, it's because they haven't needed a new high-end TV in the last 5 years, and they tuned out all those old Disney and Sony commercials.

Why we don't have 4K 3D demos yet is a mystery. I assume 3D will be incorporated into 4K spec once technology advances and studios can handle that much data when they're finishing their movies. Then there would actually be something to demo.

You can't blame Best Buy's shelf arrangement for the public's lack of interest in 3D though. Not everyone is enamored with it. Most people have seen a few 3D movies in theaters and got over it and went home to their 2D TVs because they don't care anymore. Whereas us "3D enthusiasts" went and actively searched for 3D displays when it was time to upgrade because we want that 3D experience again and again. It's not selling like hot cakes anymore. After five years, most of the "3D enthusiasts" have already upgraded, and most people who wanted to see a 3D demo have already seen one. The world moves on and adapts, either bringing 3D into part of the normal routine or dropping it for lack of interest or financial reasons.

I just realized that Disney is the biggest studio/distributor to stop supporting BD3D but they aren't the only one. Well Go also stopped released BD3D products, Ice Man and The White Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom are BD2D in the US only. Its just that Disney's exit is more noticable as they are bigger and have a larger presence in retail outlets.

Looks like Well Go's last 3D was Dino King in June 2013. I can't say they'll be missed. At least Hong Kong still makes Blu-ray 3Ds with English subs.

1) Absolutely, it is great to be able to see such films as they where intended to be seen.
2) Not from the us so no idea
3) Hasn't happened where I am. The 3d section is larger then ever and 3d blus are now also kept with the other blus whilst also having their own section.
4) They only stopped some titles. Not all and once again not really of any effect on me (I don't wish to sound harsh, but I'm not American and typically import from the uk before the us for various reasons, so I haven't been impacted at all).

It's great to see vintage 3D movies released on blu ray 3D. Often offering strong 3D.

Voted for this one: Great to see a huge 3D library available beyond just the US offerings. While there are a good number of 3D fans in the US, the world market is also what is keeping 3D alive and well IMO, with often times the majority box office compared to the US ticket sales for a good number of 3D movies. The fact there are a lot of 3D blu rays available outside the US says a lot.

I regularly see 3D displayed on release week and in its own section in Target, Best Buy, Walmart (when I go there), and a few other side stores.

I would have voted for Disney's lack of 3D support in the US, but their movies aren't the end all be all IMO, despite how big they are, and Marvel continues to release 3D blu rays (to my relief as I'm a fan), so that is why I didn't vote on Disney's choice of going the cheaper route of digital 3D in the US for its 3D animated films.

Thanks for all your replies. Unfortunately I forgot that this is an international site when I drew up the poll questions and based it on Monsters vs. Aliens release date in the U.S.

Besides the whole deal with Disney, other major screw-ups in 3D Blu-Ray history include releasing John Wayne's "Hondo" in 2D only, and the "Friday the 13th" box set which included Part 3 in the old red-and-blue format rather than proper Blu-Ray 3D. Issuing Avatar first only in 2D, then making the 3D disc only available when buying Panasonic equipment for a while was pretty stupid also.

Unfortunately, I read John Wayne's estate rather than Paramount was the reason Hondo wasn't released in 3-d Blu-ray, but as noted elsewhere Paramount is the only classic studio not represented by one classic release (only the Top Gun conversion). Hopefully the success of Kiss Me Kate and the upcoming 90th birthday next year of Jerry Lewis will push them to release Money From Home on 3-d Blu-ray.
