They just cancelled this too. Yet another Pixar 3D film lost forever:

3rd Pixar in a row not released theatrically in the US. Soul won Oscar for best animated, and Luca was entertaining. Very strange decisions, especially when Pixar used to rake in the cash. Don’t know why Disney (and warners for that matter) don’t release them theatrically for four weeks, and then put them on their streaming service.

Probably because they figure families aren't going to take their kids to the theater during this pandemic. But I guess they weren't paying attention to Spider-Man's numbers.

Heck why can’t Disney do what universal studios did with boss baby family business and release the movie in theaters and Disney plus for subscribers for free on the same day. It might have not done that well like boss baby did but at least they would still make some free money from theatres desperate for content and allow families across the world the choice of where they want to watch it. Plus Disney literally loses nothing it’s like having the option to have your cake and eat it to but not want the cake for free honestly a stupid decision for Disney. Honestly bob chapek is a idiot and I hope he is forced to resign soon.

At the very least they could release it on Blu-ray 3D considering they have a complete direct-to-consumer pipeline with Disney Movie Club and wouldn't have to share a cent of their marked up profits . . . But we've been down this road before. No reasoning with them. If their motive isn't financial, (it couldn't be, unless they really are that dense) then what could it possibly be? Mind boggling.

Yet again, Disney loses out on money out of pure corporate indifference and a late stage capitalism form of self defeating greed. They think they can get more Disney+ signups with these kinds of moves. But they’re forgetting about the sizeable amount of people that would pay to see it in the cinema, and to own it on a home 3D or other format, and also have a Disney+ subscription anyway. The irony is they wouldn’t be happy if they got every single person in the world to sign up for Disney+. Corporate greed literally knows no limits.

Amazing how many people are genuinely concerned by whether Disney. makes money from this or not.

If they won't let me pay them to see it in 3D, I guess they don't want me to see it. Oh well.

Well this time around it really does look to be the end of Disney 3D Blu ray.

It’s not about whether they make money, it’s the asinine reality of a corporation turning down money because they are so greedy they only care about one type of profit, and because they have no care for the art they hold the copyrights to. My point was merely that you know their priorities are messed up when I would happily see this in the cinema and buy it on Blu-ray but they don’t want that money. I only hope Disney doesn’t buy more studios because they are a scourge to movie lovers and home video collectors.

Yes, they don't see that they can bring people to pay multiple times for one title...

Instead they think "Disney+" is the holy grail. But most of them are cross promotion subscribers these days

Real home-media maniacs have "Disney+" as as standard and buy lots of physical media from them on top.

So why not offer all 3D movies on disc and all UHD in all main regions

Just goes to show how out of touch the suits in these west coast liberal enclaves are. Most of America is over panicking about another endemic virus that we now have vaccinations and treatments available for.

The Spider-Man showings at my theater were packed for weeks with maskless folks living normal lives. COVID is over in the Midwest U.S. and judging by Spider-Man’s box office numbers it’s over in most of the world.

It's not even remotely mysterious what the motivation is. It's 100% to manipulate the stock price.

I'm not trying to single you out here, just in general people on this board don't understand how these large publicly traded corporations function and how their executives make money.

Disney's CEO won't personally lose a dime due to "lost profit" from not selling a few thousand 3D blu-rays.

Executives make their wealth by receiving stock. Boosting stock value is essentially their sole role at a company.

For people that think that maximizing profit is always the primary driving force behind executives' decisions, you are wrong. These people can become billionaires without their respective companies making a dime. Uber can lose billions on a quarterly basis (yes, billions per quarter!) and has made countless executives fabulously wealthy.

These companies don't operate financially like we do personally. Generally we *must* turn a "profit" in order to cover our living expenses and keep a roof over our heads. We as individuals don't leave any money on the table. Every dollar counts and we'll take every one that's available.
Corporations like Disney do not operate under this financial model.

It seems Disney- mostly cares about their cash flow streaming subscription service and is abandoning theaters and disc formats. They stink these days in that sense.

This movie reminds me of Teen Wolf, with Michael J. Fox. He asked his Dad about being a wolf and his Dad had to explain it to him as well.

There was almost zero chance I would see this in theaters, unless the 3D was reported to be very strong. Not my style of movie is all. Nothing against the movie.

We've had therapeutics since almost the beginning, it's just that it was politically incorrect to even talk about them (and still pretty much is since most of them will be deemed by our "betters" as "misinformation" since they're not profitable to certain powers that be).

Anyway, another Disney animation, another day of not caring.

randomfellow: "Boosting stock value is essentially their sole role at a company."

That isn't even related. The big wigs who focus more on decisions like buyouts and franchise synergy have little people working for them that make all kids of smaller moneymaking decisions, so this wouldn't even be on their radar, but would be the responsibility (in this case failure) of those making decisions for home media and manufacturing. Like I've said many times before, they already do it for bare-bones releases of VERY obscure old movies and shows through their movie club, and you will never convince me that these sell more than a recent blockbuster would.

I love how you can get warnings for going ‘off topic’ in this forum if you talk about the demise of 3D in a movie thread, or potential 3D revival routes, but repeating bunk talking points and rumours about a worldwide health crisis like a medieval peasant rolling in muck is apparently a-okay lol. This forum needs some consistency with its moderation, personally I’d much rather read about the decline of 3D for the 1000th time than have to lose more braincells hearing hinted nonsense about sheep medicine regurgitated by sheep…

A medieval peasant rolling in muck is a worldwide health crisis?
Sheep are regurgitating their medicine?

Well, that's definitely something I don't want to see in 3D...or at all.

BTW, has anyone here tried asking RealD about releasing a 3D trailer for this, and/or all their other films? It still confuses me that they put 2D trailers up on their social media instead of showcasing their own work.
