Default Anyone expects BLU-RAY AUDIO?

I love watching movies but actually I'm more an audio person. I'm kinda picky about sound quality and was disappointed by CD sound a long time ago. Since 2002, I have been collecting vinyl albums giving up buying CDs. To me, the analogue medium sounds so much better than any digital sources.

However, I get excited when I think an audio format of Blu-ray will probably be available once the format war is settled down (Of course, by BD's victory). With the capacity of 50G (or just 25G), the potential audio format (named Blu-ray Audio like DVD-Audio) would produce a real natural sound: extremely high sampling rate, super wide frequency response (like 0Hz-50,000 Khz), etc. I would probably stop collecting LPs when the format is available. It's a bit too early to talk about it but I would love to have the new audio format. Is there anyone who is with me?

Frankly I don't given the response to DVD-A and SACD

Anything higher than that will be a digital file with net distribution I think

I think it would be kinda stupid to attempt it seeing how SACD did. I may be a minority, but I won't be buying anything that I can't play in my car as well. My computer does not have a blu reader so I will be sticking with cd's and mp3's.

You can buy concerts on Blu-ray. I got the Jazz one, sounds good!

I really don't think so due to the abysmal performance of SACD. There will probably be some audio reference disks that a few sound designers might put out there for a full 7.1 master.

If they come out with a dual format that can play on CD players in a car, then pop it in a Blu-Ray player which would have all the videos, lyrics, band trivia as well as a lossless sound channel...then you might have something.

Until then just expect Blu concert and best of video titles I think.

Actually, I think the time may be right to attempt something like this. DVD-A and SACD were ahead of their time, and as such, didn't really take off. But more people are putting in-dash movie players in their vehicles, so the idea of a in-dash blu-ray player, even if just for audio, isn't totally out of the realm of possibility.

To answer the OP's question: I think it will be a while, but you do have a very valid point in that for the first time, we have a medium that is able to provide LP quality (or better) without the degredation of the source. I truly hope that the industry takes advantage of that, I worry that the MP3 generation will leave all of us with poor-quality audio in order to have an entire music collection at your fingertips. Personally, I wouldn't mind being able to create a few blu-rays for a changer that have some of my favorite songs in lossless audio...

This is EXACTLY what I have been hellbent for five years now on comming out!!! It is DESPERATELY needed to put l.p.s in 5.1, stereo, have new and old filmed interviews, demos, outtakes, remixes, alternative versions of songs, different edits of songs, the short promotional films (music videos), making of the short films, any recording of films available, interviews with fans of the impact of the music, and a documentary on the project would all be possiblities for loads, and loads, and loads of l.p.s!!!! Yet people here and elsewhere respond by saying, "Oh no one cares! Give it a break! Grow up!" blah, blah, blah. One reason D.V.D.-Audio failed was because no one could tell the difference between the two new audio formats of that and Super-Audio C.D.s...sound familiar? That and "everyone were going to wait it out and see which one wins". How about that idea as well, huh? Also it was only a decade after c.d.s took off that this new format came out as well as the fact that the public would have to buy a 5.1 Surround Sound System set up which is always going to be a hard sell to convince people to buy FIVE speakers for crying out loud! Anway...I pray to God that a Blu-Ray audio happens so we will get these l.p.s packaged with everything in them or at least something more than just the regular l.p....

1. Grab David Gilmour: Remember That Night on Blu-Ray - it's full of Pink Floyd classics.

2. Get a computer with a BD burner & burn your albums to BD in the .wav format or .flac format. [.wav BD discs play on my PS3 perfectly and can be imported onto the PS3 HDD]

There are some good web sites like Beatport.com that you can download in .wav as opposed to mp3

Honestly makes you wonder why DVD-Audio actually existed. I mean, it's not like Blu-Ray and HD DVD where it's obvious one format is actually going to go somewhere. Competing in a market that might not support 1 format seems like no point at all except to kill it all off.

Audio quality is as important to me as video quality. There already exists specifications for an audio only Blu-ray format, the so called profile 3(just like the infamous profile 1.1). But scuttlebutt suggests that this iteration of Blu-ray is far off and possibly may never see commercial release. It would be nice.

No, no, no, no thank you...... not another audio format. I will stick to CD aka traditional compact disc.
As far as I loved BD, I wouldn't love to have a BD-A

Count me in. I'm a pseudo-audiophile and would love to see a Blu-Ray audio variant. The problem is that most people aren't really listening to music on great equipment whereas HDTV quality keeps improving. If people heard better audio quality, I think there'd be a little bit more interest.
