I have a Kodak HD Z812 IS camera which takes video in MP4 format, but when I drag and drop the resulting MOV files onto my desktop, open them in Quicktime, and export them to MP4 (the same way I always export Quicktime trailers for PS3 playback), I end up with an apparently non-compliant MP4 file when I try and play it on the PS3. Is there a way around this (preferably one that doesn't involve re-encoding the video stream)?
EDIT: I've worked around this problem for now, but it requires video re-encoding. Here's the trick if anyone needs to know: 01. Open your MP4 file with Quicktime. 02. Hit Ctrl+I and take note of the Data Rate. 03. Use this tool to convert megabits to kilobits and write down the result(*) http://www.matisse.net/bitcalc/. 04. Hit Ctrl+E and, in the "Export" dialog box, select "Movie to MPEG-4". 05. Click the "Optons..." tab and set the following settings to these values under "Video": File format = MP4, Video Format = H.264, Data Rate = *, Image Size = Current, Frame Rate = 30, Optimized for = Download, Key Frame = Automatic. 09. Click the "Video Options..." tab and select "Main", "Baseline", and "Best quality (Multi-pass)". 10. Do a passthrough for the audio. The resulting file will be of similar quality to the original and will be PS3-compliant. Unfortunately, the resulting file will be over three times the size of the original. If anyone knows how to do this WITHOUT RE-ENCODING, please let me know. Last edited by Croweyes1121; 11-30-2007 at 06:33 PM. |
