Default VCI to release The Giant Spider Invasion on blu ray this June

Interesting source(s)
:
Ronald Postilio : vci told me they where putting it out on jun 9 blu ray and dvd
https://www.facebook.com/DiabolikDVD

There are at least three pre-orders for this
Amazon
Movies Unlimited (they list an audio commentary as an extra)
CD Universe

Keep in mind that this is still very much new and just out of the blu ray incubator so most of these sites are default to DVD, but based on the VCI comment, it should be getting a blu ray release on June 6th. Word is just starting to get out so of course there will be more updates and news as we get closer to the release date.

For fans like me who love the Giant Spider Invasion, this will be hopefully a stellar release !

I'd rather have the MST3K version but hey, it's still pretty funny by itself.

Of all the films of this particular genre to receive blu-ray releases I never thought THIS one would be one of them. Well off to the preorder links I go.

VCI has never has a Stellar release of any title, and sure aren't going to turn the tide with this one. Check your expectations appropriately.

Except for Dark Night of the Scarecrow, which, perhaps not coincidentally, was the only (?) disc encoded with VC-1!

And their last release of A Christmas Carol. A few (minor) issues, but over-all, beautiful! Also, their print of Gorgo -- rough as it is -- is miles ahead of any other release that's ever been done of it. Cut 'em a little slack!

Didnt they release WHAT THE PEEPER SAW on Blu, and the fans got angry at them for claiming it's uncut when it wasn't?

Yes, and VCI changed it to the *almost uncut*
I thought the movie and the PQ were both meh. I like their White Zombie release, Gorgo is decent. I admit my confidence isnt there with them but I know they are at least trying. They need to use MPEG 4 or VC-1and I bet their releases will look better in HD.. they use MPEG 2 ... they did that with the Prowler..

A Facebook quote from VCI on the Giant Spider Invasion "we are currently restoring it for DVD and Blu-ray.. The DVD will have some extras, but the Blu-ray will have everything we have found and a new documentary by Daniel Griffith."

And it will be WIDESCREEN !

This should be a kick @ss release

Gorgo was decent... If this matches or exceeds the quality of their Gorgo release, I'll be happy enough.

This movie holds a special place for me, I saw it back when it made it's theatrical run in late '75 on a triple bill with Bug and one of the mid 70's Godzilla movies (maybe Godzilla vs Megalon?) at a local weekend Matinee. Although totally cheesy with often comically bad spfx, there was a few scenes like the bit where the tarantula gets into the blender and the large spider pops out of the drawer that creeped us Jr High School kids out. I've had the 2 disc dvd set for some time and gladly welcome this unexpected (hopeful) upgrade.

That's how I'm approaching it as well. As long as they don't apply any DNR, and there aren't any compression issues with what will assumedly be MPEG-2 encoding, my relatively modest expectations should be met. So what is missing from the 2-DVD set, just the Rebane commentary? The Red Shirt doc should be a good one, although I think I'll be skipping the 'Rockin Tracks' from the musical CD.

Cool. I remember seeing this in the theater as a kid - fun stuff. I still laugh when the lady in the white pant-suit falls and rolls down the hill

Where's Kingdom of the Spiders!

Thumbs up

Thanks for posting that trailer.

I saw VCI's fb post and figured that this would be a safe blind-buy for me.

Seeing the trailer just sealed the deal!

There's a review up on DVD Drive-In. The amount of special features on this is staggering! Incredible we live in a world where we get 3+ hours of interviews and behind the scenes related to Giant Spider Invasion and still haven't gotten as much as one stinkin' 5 minute interview about the original Poltergeist.

I might have to buy this even though it's a TERRIBLE movie. Wisconsin Pride? If they included the MST3K version I would have bought it no hesitation whatsoever, but I guess Rhino still has that in print. At least the MST3K guys do show up in the features.

Yeah this is a great release, I already have the MST3K version on Volume 10, so I wouldnt need it. A recalled DVD has a commentary which Im keeping because of that. So Ill own the DVD until I listen to the commentary but the blu ray will be the main viewing pleasure. Im really thrilled about this release.
