Good thing I didn't bite the bullet on the British import blu-ray, I was close to paying $30 for it.

I imported the DVD from Australia
I wouldn't mind double dipping as long as there's special features worth noting (besides the trailer)

Uncensored? This has better extras, but the UK release has a better cover.

Considering this is Neon, I wouldn't be shocked of we get a 4k down the road. I would just wait.

Gosh this looks gorgeous and really nice a very unique 2D animation style too I think I'm going to pick this up as I've heard so many great things about this film.

Why WAS this film unrated in theaters? I saw an early theatrical screening of it, and it seems like it can get away with a PG rating at best.

The very brief scene in which a group of punks flip the bird (or not even the bird, since they only have four fingers) at Robot, him responding back with the same gesture.

I'm not sure if that would get it a PG-13, but it had to be pixelated for the UK release to avoid a 12A rating.

There's plenty bird-flippings in PG-13 movies. Not sure why a PG-13 rating would be a deterrent for Neon with this film, especially given it's aimed at a niche audience.

It has nothing to do with NEON. It was distributed by Curzon / Artifical Eye in the UK, and they did it to receive a lower rating from the BBFC there.

The company obscured rude gestures in order to achieve their preferred category of PG. Changes were made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut 12A classification was available.

I wasn't talking about the UK censorship, which...sucks about that. I was referring to Neon opted to not give this film a rating over the most minor of suggested content, in my opinion.

I probably should've highlight the second paragraph on that user's quote, in hindsight.

Sorry I thought the UK release's censoring was what was being discussed. I didn't realize it was unrated in the US. I'm unsure why they didn't submit it for rating, but I suppose it's possible that being an animated film geared towards adults, but looking like a kid's movie, having it rated PG or even PG-13 would draw in parents with little kids unexpectedly. That probably still happened, but perhaps less so with it being unrated. I don't imagine most kids would be bothered by the movie, though many may not care for it being dialogue-free.

I think we can agree that aside from the bird flipping, this film is suitable for kids and families, right?

I'm sure even back in the 80's you could get away with flipping the bird (you could even get away with saying the "F" word once or twice back then).
