I just watched Gravity's trailer and the first person shots are BRILLIANT!!! You actually feel like you're inside the suit! The helmet's glass panel and the internal reflections are way in the foreground!!
The best part is that there will be many of them unlike The Amazing Spider-Man.

Btw, I have script. PM me if you want a copy.

'Gravity', Post-Converted digital 3D Film about a woman trying to return to Earth after disaster strikes her mission in space
Producer David Heyman:
Quote:
We’re using technology that’s never seen before. This film will be more immersive, I believe, than anything you’ve seen before. You will really feel like you are in space. It will not be an objective view of space, it will be an immersive view of space.
Quote:
because so much of it’s being done digitally, you can make the 3D in a post process much more easily than if you were shooting all live-action or sitting in a room.

Sounds interesting. Thanks!

Outerspace is tough to convert with strong 3D for one reason: Our current 3D glasses technology's infamous ghosting effect. With high contrasts such as black with white stars, any strong 3D will tend to ghost since the 3D glasses can't fully block out all light when they're supposed to (in theory).

You can still get medium 3D with minimal ghosting effect.

On a PC:
Mount using DVDFab's Virtual Drive : http://www.dvdfab.com/virtual_drive.htm
Then play it like a normal 3D blu-ray using PowerDVD/TotalMedia Theatre.

Some blu-ray players can directly play the ISO files. Try copying them onto a pen drive. If not, extract the ISO and burn the files onto a DVD/CD.

So it's technically a hybrid? Since the CGI is being re-rendered in stereoscopic 3D.

They opened Gatsby with the trailer the other night. The 3D looks very good, I just hope it is as strong story-wise.

Yes, mix of CGI 3D with converted 2D to 3D live action for Hybrid Conversions. As with John Carter 3D and Avengers 3D, along with many more.

Sounds good, thanks.

EDIT:

Before Pacific Rim, they played the 3D preview of Gravity. The 3D looks really good in outer space, probably in the upper medium 3D range. The preview shows a collision with the space station and the astronaut woman and Clooney, drift into outer space as a result. Looks very interesting, and wonder what it's all about.

Saw the 3D trailer before Pacific Rim today. Looks very interesting. The contrast of the white spacesuits looked pretty striking against the blackness of space. I do wonder how well crosstalk will be handled though - those are the kind of shots that are the most difficult to pull of without crosstalk. Good 3D, though after seeing Pacific Rim it's got some tough competition.

Well said. Agreed that high contrast scenes can't have overly strong 3D if ghosting is a concern with current 3D glasses' inability to completely block out all light. The strong contrast of white on black shines through the blackness of the crystal lens.

They did a nice job considering that, so we'll see how it turns out later this year. I need to find out what the plot of the movie will be. Hopefully some sci fi elements included.

New trailer...

That CGI is horrible. I want to see the movie but it looks really fake, and this is a bad trailer. Even the first trailer was better and that wasn't great either.

Shouldn't this thread be in the General Discussion forum?

I honestly think this looks amazing! Sure you can tell it's CG, but it's detailed enough where it doesn't feel fake to me. Can't wait to see this in 3D!!!

I just watched Children of Men for the first time a couple of nights ago. Awesome movie. I'm very excited to see Cuaron's next epic and what he will do with 3D.

Referring to an earlier post, we post new theatrical 3D movies in the blu ray 3D thread (instead of the general 3D discussion thread), which these days, often has a blu ray 3D pre order the same time the 3D movie is still playing. Plus all of our discussion of the movie's 3D is automatically in the same thread, reducing having to repost in a second thread.

Yeah, I though the CGI looked in from the first trailer I watched, as the motions are what sell the believability a little more than the modeling/texturing.

Thanks for the info. If I remember, Clyde Owen (from Sin City, Shoot Em Up) starred in that one about the genes of one kid potentially saving mankind from doom, which I watched a few years back and it kept my attention easily.
