Default Sherlock Abominable Bride

what is the real running time? some show 90 minutes and others show 110 and 115 minutes. I ordered the blu ray at 90 minutes.

The episode itself is 90 minutes. The theatrical showing had 20 minutes of behind the scenes stuff shown. That's why the running time was longer.

Repeating on PBS January 10th, for those (like myself) who missed it.

I don't get what is going on with this special. I thought it was supposed to air on TV, but I never found it listed on BBC.

Oh well, should I hold off if I haven't watched Seasons 2 or 3 yet?

It aired on PBS as part of the Masterpiece collection. That's where it airs first run.

It was 87 mins of nonsense. Definitely the worst effort of the series. Massively disappointing. Once the
[Show spoiler]it's all in Sherlock's head happened, it was a disaster. There was no reason for that. Should have just had a one off 19th century episode, but nope, they had to make it a cliche. Ugh

That's good advice for anyone planning to record it. I tried searching for "Sherlock" but actually found it under "Masterpiece Mystery".

I would agree with it being a lesser entry into the Sherlock series...

I echo Doctor Jack's sentiments above
[Show spoiler]that it should have been a straightforward one-off show set in the Victorian era, the whole modern day mind palace stuff just ruined it for me. The stuff with Moriarty was intrusive and ruined the Abominable Bride mystery, yet it just needlessly teased the audience even more with regards to what was going on in the modern day storyline.

Agreed. This was easily the worst episode of the entire series. It tried to stuff too much into a single episode, and it couldn't just be content to be the one thing it should have been.

The other problem was that the
[Show spoiler]bride mystery wasn't all that compelling. It was just a big swing and a miss for the show.
Hopefully they can start back on the excellence pathway the first two series were.

It started off strong, a very intriguing set up but the denouement was really underwhelming.

Why is a BBC show not airing on BBC?

They must have a deal with PBS first, because that's where the show first aired. So they probably get first showing before BBC eventually airs it. PBS has aired more BBC produced content than BBC America, honestly...haha.

To be fair, PBS has like a fifty year head start

Downton Abbey, Call The Midwife, and Sherlock all have their first run US distribution rights sold to PBS by the BBC.

PBS presumably paid a nice chunk of money for that distribution deal.

I really enjoyed it up till the end.

Not sure it was the worst of the series though. I remember not being hugely impressed with Series 3, but i'll have to rewatch.

I agree it was not the worst. Second show from season 1 holds that distinction.
