Smile do studios honor digital copies that use digital copy discs

Hello, I am wandering if movie studios still honor digital copies that use physical digital copy discs that must be stuck in your computers CD/DVD rom drive.

I know that sony does not honor digital copies that use an Itunes Disc as permissions with them expired when they switched to uv, (i was properly educated by them on all of UV in order to make as few mistakes/hiccups as possible).

Does warner bros still honor digital copy disc required titles?

I am concerned about pre 2013 dreamworks titles that came before fox under paramount as all of those used itunes discs, and were printed with vudu code sheets.

Disney does still honor them obviously as they have a whole line for that known as disney legacy , they honor the expired until 2099 or the end of the program whichever comes first obviously.

If i ever run into a title that uses a physical digital copy disc for digital copy, do they still work, or have permissions expired for the studios involved with itunes?

The majority of iTunes codes past their expiration date still work (including many that use a digital copy disc) and sometimes the studios are willing to issue you a new code for ones that are no longer working. Sony, as you have already found out, refuses to issue replacement codes for expired iTunes and UV digital copies but many of the other studios are more helpful.

This thread has info on titles that have codes that are expired and won't be replaced by the studios as well as studio contact information:

And some would argue for having such a poor attitude towards its customers by enforcing these types of policies, Sony Pictures was just deservedly hacked.

Sony does take time out to properly educate its consumers all about the digital world, i had an issue with my store account on that service. and they were completely willing to unlock it. I had a very friendly support tech that helped me to get back into the service they offer called the sony pictures store.

i am aware they are hacked, there are several different threads on honoring the digital copy disc if i am correct.

does Paramount still have the permissions to use physical digital copy discs like with most others who do?

Really. So because they have expiration dates on digital copies, they deserve to potentially lose millions in movie revenue on unrelated projects?

No one deserves to be hacked. A company may not be popular but don't forget that hacking could potentially affect customers as well as others not affiliated with the company. Look how badly the Sony hack a few years back affected anyone who owned a PS3. Hacking in the long wrong affects more than just a company who's policies you don't agree with.

There was a more recent hack where political matters were involved, which can't be discussed here.

To the topic at hand, As i found out with Sony their permissions and rights with Apple Itunes expired for their titles that used Itunes discs.

Are other studios more generous with honoring DC discs, Disney honors them for obvious reasons as there were titles released prior to the launch of their own digital streaming solution.

Is it possible to get Warner Bros. to replace old iTunes codes with a UV/VUDU/Flixster code instead?

1 of them is TV Show on DVD release from 2008, the other is TV Show on Blu-ray release also from 2008.

does the Disc/XML method of redemption still work for most titles as long as the code sheet did not expire, or is there a whole set of parameters influencing that?

The Disc/XML redemption method still works as long as the code hasn't expired. And there are many codes that are still working long past the expiration dates printed on their sheets. These codes still work the same way that they always have.

The only thing that is really new in the world of disc based DCs is that you can upgrade your old Disney iTunes copies to HD by connecting your DMA and iTunes accounts. More info can be found in the Disney Anywhere Official Thread.

I visit the link below frequently evil, as I am a new member of that service. So the disc/Xml required titles work long past expiration depending on who the studio Is?

Yes, many still work past expiration.

For instance, I recently redeemed a disc based code for Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift that has an expiration date of 7/31/10. I also redeemed disc based codes for Red Riding Hood and The Rite that were over 2 years past their 2012 expiration dates.

Certain studios who use disc can be very strict in how they redeem, like Sony as they must be used out of the box.

Fox under the old redemption process can redeem for UV and Itunes, the new process is one or the other.

@Evil, Universal split its time between disc codes, and UV inserts. as they are tricky to redeem from and can be unpredictable.

Fox has some of the Disc?XML titles active, but not all of them. does that mean once the codes cease the discs become subject to standard itunes usage rules after that, or are they useless along with their inserts?

With the existence of iCloud, the digital copy discs are largely useless besides maybe saving bandwidth and download time for some folks. You can download a copy of the movie straight from iCloud when you need it or stream it through Apple TV so copying a file from a disc is outdated at this point. Once the code expires, the digital copy disc is useless. You won't be able to use the disc to add the movie to your account, I don't think you'll be able to use the disc to download another copy of a film already in your account, and any replacement codes you get from the studios won't need it.

@evil, in Disney's specific case and with the creation of DMA, there are points where icloud does not work for certain titles of theirs, when one or more of the partners don't have a Disney Movies Anywhere file of a Disney Legacy Title, the Disc is required for those instances. Lady and The Tramp is one that requires the disc because the Vudu file is not there, i was told by their Customer support that when a vudu file is not present, the title in question stops at Itunes.

Some of them, but not all the Disc based ones cross sync with Disney Movies Anywhere due to those using older technology that may or may not entirely handshake correctly with their servers.

For others as you said, icloud communicates with titles from other studios disc based or not, and DC disc is dead. as you said, disc titles may or may not be good depending on code age, i need to carefully check.

Lady and the Tramp is hidden but available on Vudu and has the DMA symbol:
