Default New Home Theater System

I know this gets asked a lot but I am thinking about finally putting together a home theater system.

I have a 65 inch Samsung LED Smart TV and a PS4.

What receiver do you recommend?

Also the Klipsch Icon speakers are on clearance at Best Buy. Are those good?

I love the sound of Bose, but everyone tells me they are overpriced.

I'd like to keep it under $1,000 but will go more so I don't have to sacrifice.

If your not going to audition a set-up for demo, (that is always recommended) these are a good way to spend less...

sound is subjective, it applies to all combos of equipment (AVR/Speakers/Amps). So demo is the best way to determine your tastes.

AVR's have a particular sound to each manufacture, among them Onkyo/integra has a majority popularity. Although I enjoyed the years I've had with mine. I cannot recommend them anymore (failure rate is astonishing).
If your looking for the lowest cost to final, AFL has a good rep. & carries favorable brands.

Take some time, if you care, to browse through the many speaker manufacturers/owners/theory.

It would be best to find that good combo that compliments for a great HT. (Aim for Musical speakers) they will shine in HT well.
Subwoofers should be considered Wisely.

I'm going to start over, probably spent 2.5K in AVR/speakers/Sub
It's nice to get it right the first time.

I have Kilpsch speakers in my theater and I like them a lot. I use a Yamaha AV receiver which has fantastic DSPs. They make a big difference in sound quality for stereo recordings.

Props to the Emptek suggestion, incredible speakers for the price, especially if you can get B-stock speakers on clearance

More Onkyo thrashing...

Epic fail. Their problem AVR are now covered till 2018. What has Denon done for theirs?

Back from rant...

Klipsch are efficient...so you won't need much power. Yamah 377, Onkyo 333, Denon E series(skip the bottom one).

40.2 is Integra. If you bought it authorized, it has a 3 year warranty.

The problem AVR for Onkyo were all already out of warranty. Onkyo extended those. If X1X and X2X, which are still under warranty, start failing like the X07, X08 and X09...expect them to be added.

OP needs to give some idea regarding budget for speakers and amp, and if he wants 5.1, 7.1 or some atmos setup.
If you love the sound of bose, I have no words, they are low fi to the extreme (though maybe you just have not heard better which is understandable). If your budget is $1000 for just the amp you should be looking at something far better. If it is $1000 for everything I would consider stating with a 2.0 setup and then slowly upgrading from their as in the long run you will be far happier with a better setup. To be clear, stay away from bose, you are payign ahuge premium for a name that doens't even deliver good performance for the low end, let alone for the price they charge.

My recommendation for ht speaker is always krix. But I love how they sound, but audio is more complicated then video and you really need to try some out for yourself.

Polk, on their Ebay store, has the RTi6 for $155(-ish) a pair...shipping included.

Hard to argue against that...

I just found the Audioholics review.

Love a site that can mock Best Buy customers...and not care that they might offend.

Essentially...the icons don't suck. But like every Klipsch that doesn't cost $1000/piece...

They will sound fatiguing...to some people. The whole horn thing...

To OP, are you looking for bookshelf or tower speakers? For the receiver I'd suggest a refurb older model marantz, Yamaha or denon from accessiries4less with the features you need for your set up.

I'd like a very good receiver that will last and be viable for many years to come. Yamaha?

Also tower speakers for the front, center speaker, sub, and 2 bookshelf speakers for the rear.

I will buy this a little at a time if I can't afford all at once.

You remind me of myself. This past weekend I purchased the Yamaha rx-v477 receiver with the Klipsch Icon speakers, KF-28, KC-25, and KS-14. Subwoofer I got the Klipsch SW-450. I am extremely happy about my setup. Sound is amazing.

Are you looking to have a 4K display before you replace your receiver? Will you be looking to go to 7 speakers or a second zone?

On the speakers, it's really tough on what to suggest as everyone likes different things. I've always thought Polk monitor 70s with a 25c center (~$400) were the best entry level speaker combo for the money, but I'm sure you'll find plenty on here that disagree.

I just bought a 65 inch Samsung LED. I will probably get a 4K TV in 3-4 years when there is more content for them. I would like my receiver to still be viable at that time.
