Default Black Christmas '74 New Release Thread

So, today I made my periodic title search for Black Christmas, in fervent hopes that there will be a 40th Anniversary type re-release or some such. To my surprise there was a new entry with the requisite "cover coming soon" tag, after which I almost fainted dead away from shock and excitement! I've been waiting for an updated release for years, dammit and it looks like we're gonna get one! Hi-Def Digest didn't have anything on it but hey, that entry couldn't be lying right???? I hope there are some awesome special features, especially new interviews with Margot Kidder. Right about now is when the old interviews on the other set have passed from "fairly current" to "old". Maybe a snippet of Tarantino talking about the movie, as Black Christmas is his favorite movie of all time? Make it happen!!!

What features would you like to see?

Not sure where you read that, but it's definitely not true.

If there's going to be some kind of 40th anniversary edition, I hope they'll tell us soon. I want to know whether or not it's safe to pick up the original release.

I've read that several times over the years

Well the current BD is cheap enough, so I would say that it's safe

True I guess, but I don't want to get it and then see a superior 40th anniversary release pop up later this year. Then you might say I could sell it and so on, but I'd rather just do the simplest thing and wait. If nothing pops up for the remainder of the year, I'll just go ahead and get the first one.

I must admit, I'm not terribly thrilled with the current release. A better restoration would not go astray.

I just want to say that ANYONE can add titles to this site including those that don't have a Blu-ray release yet (I should know because I added some titles as of matter of fact).

I think unless we hear otherwise, this should be moved to the Wishlist section.

I think it could be a re-issue of the same release possibly... but if they were to move the thread to the wishlist I would say just merge this posts with the original Black Christmas thread.

This is a title crying out for restoration as it's quite possibly one of the creepiest spine tingling horrors ever made. I saw it on late night tv as a teen and it genuinely scared the bejesus out of me. Carl Zitterer's score is what adds to the on-screen tension.

A pity the late great Bob Clark won't be around for its 40th Anniversary as he and his son was killed in a head-on collision in 2007 by a drunk driver.

They don't make movies like this anymore as the ambiguity over the killer is what makes it. The less you see and know of him only makes it all the more disconcerting.

Good Canadian documentary on the making of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n7x6...ature=youtu.be

Making a database entry in hopes of seeing a possible release does not mean that it is coming...lol...

I've always wondered why this particular film has never received a decent release in the US if it's such a classic. I've seen it a couple of times and agree that it's got a creepy vibe, I'm just not a big Christmas horror film enthusiast. The scenario in the film was copied later in WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, a film which I do love and which also deserves better treatment. These are the kinds of movies Shout/Scream Factory should be going after - the ones that are being left behind by indifferent labels.

I really wish Don May could get his hands on this film.

I don't see it on his most recent "best of" list. And the link I provided has his "previous" list. It's also not on there.
"Apocalypse Now"
"The Bad News Bears"
"Carrie"
"Dazed & Confused"
"The Good, The Bad & The Ugly"
"The Great Escape"
"His Girl Friday"
"Jaws"
"Pretty Maids All In A Row"
"Rolling Thunder"
"Sorcerer"
"Taxi Driver"http://www.hitfix.com/motion-capture...some-questions

Aside from screening it at The QT Film Festival (among what might be 100s of other films by the look of it) it doesn't appear to have been mentioned anywhere as his "favorite." Even a google search merely brings us to this particular thread...

I picked up the German release last year, which is said to have a better encode than the US release, however I don't have the US release to compare. But they are from the same source. So I'd pick up a new restoration. I second it would be great if Synapse could snag this, to go along with their other Canadian slasher releases, Curtains, and Prom Night. That's a pipe dream though.
