Default Christine 1983... Wow!

Hey guys, I just finished watching this and I thought it was great! Are there any similar movies out there I can check out? I loved the theme of the inanimate object being intelligent and out-smarting humans!

Thanks!

glad you enjoyed the movie... totally worth starting an entirely new thread instead of just adding to the existing thread for the film. good luck!

31 years later, young people still enjoying this. Good to see. Back in 1983, my then-wife and I won free tickets to see this. I fell for it immediately, she couldn't have cared less.
I've since owned one VHS, 2 DVDs, and the Twilight Time Blu ray, which is excellent IMHO.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Maximum overdrive is another movie you should check out. It also has killer vehicles.

Damn this thread. I suddenly feel like watching the film again as it's been a while since I've seen it. I think I was slightly underwhelmed the first time (I'd watched it with that typical, unreasonable expectation that comes from reading and loving the book) but I did like the score and the chemistry between the stars.

Christine is a favorite of mine. Try The Car, Maximum Overdrive, Event Horizon.

I wouldn't even recommend Maximum Overdrive to my worst enemy. Even Stephen King thinks it's awful and he made the damn thing - "a moron movie" I believe he calls it. Just buy AC/DC's Who Made Who lp and leave it at that.

Duel, perhaps? Obviously the truck has a driver but it's depicted in the manner of a monster.

Part of the reason Christine is so good is because of John Carpenter's flawless direction. Also check out some of his other films like Thing Thing and Escape from New York.

I haven't seen Maximum Overdrive since I was a kid and I think it came on TNT's MonsterVision with Joe Bob Briggs.

I loved it as a kid.

Until back then (late 90's), I had not known the name of this movie, but now I want to revisit it and watch it again to enjoy as an adult!

Thank you all so much in this thread!

Another movie from the same year (1983) that you could check out is Nightmares. Although the movie contains four seperate stories - all of them great - one involves a battle between a priest who is questioning his faith, and a demonic pick-up truck.

You could also check out The Wraith (1986) with Charlie Sheen. Somewhat similar themes, even though the car is manned by someone. It is out on Blu-ray in Japan, albeit just a little on the expensive side.

Wow, that's great!

I was amazed at how well they did with the special effects!

King has no shortage of turds in his "moron movie" stable, yet surprisingly he keeps being involved in them....

In any case, Maximum Overdrive is not without its flaws, but it's still fun. The story he wrote couldn't be translated better than what was filmed at the time, so the flaws in story--and the resulting film, since he directed it--are squarely his.

Even still, I would argue that its a fun movie if you're able/willing to see past the flaws in both story and concept. Its not unlike other movies from the mid-80s that are ridiculous but fun, in the same league as Night of the Comet IMHO.
