Blu-ray Knight

I watched "Diary of a Lost Girl" last night with some friends. Louise Brooks is incredible of course, I was expecting that. The melodrama of the story might be hard for younger viewers to understand and identify with. But even though the story is profoundly tragic and quite removed from modern society, I was involved and interested every second. The subject matter was quite daring, and the seedier aspects weren't couched in symbolism. They happened right there on screen. It must have been a shocking film in its day.
The music was a piano track and it did the job, but it really didn't stand out as great like some of the other silents on blu-ray that have been coming out lately. The film elements and restoration were excellent. Missing frames here and there, but nothing that disrupted the flow of the film. The English subtitles were a bit cramped at the bottom of the screen, but that was necessitated by the layout of the inter title cards. Overall, a fabulous film and a very good presentation on blu-ray. |
