USA The Mask (1961) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

It has been reported that The Mask, a movie that isn't really a 3D movie...but a movie that has three 3D dream sequences, will be coming sometime in 2015... via Kino Classics....courtesy of Bob Furmanek 's 3-D Film Archive. It's been reported that the release will be sometime after the release of 3D Rarites.

Bob...care to confirm or deny??

I can confirm after 3-D RARITIES is finished, we'll begin our highly anticipated restoration of THE MASK. The creepy and surreal 3-D segments based on designs by Slavko Vorkapich will be restored from original 35mm elements.

Stay tuned for some exciting announcements of our collaborative work on this landmark Canadian production with the Toronto International Film Festival and Kino Lorber.

Thumbs up

Among vintage 3d films I want to see, it wouldn't be my first choice, but I've heard good things about those dream sequences.

I'll certainly be picking up a copy.

I believe this was shown on TV in 3-D when I was a kid. You had to go pick up the paper glasses somewhere. I know you they did another movie too, but can't remember what it was. I think maybe one of the Creature movies from Universal.

Yes, there were a bunch of titles converted to anaglyphic 3-D for TV viewing in the early 1980's.

The Mask 3D looks like a creepy horror film, cool. I put on my red/cyan glasses (anaglyph 3D) and a few shots in that trailer were in strong 3D, though with anaglyph, the pop outs suffer from heavy double imaging in this case where the eyeballs are flying out of the screen and the skulls, so hopefully they have a presentation also in stereo 3D. Looks like fun and nice to see it preserved.

You're seeing extreme parallax examples which exceed the limits of anaglyphic cancellation. That being said, it will look MUCH better in HD.

The discrete left/right is stunning.

When I saw THE MASK on it's original release, I don't recall it being advertised as 3D. The gimmick was the mask itself (similar to the "ghost viewer" in 13 GHOSTS). I'm curious as to what the release will look like. The original release was anaglypic (red/blue) and not what I'll call "true 3d". So will the new Blu-Ray be able to be viewed with non-anaglypic 3D glasses, or will red/blue glasses be provided with the disc (or both)?

The posters advertised it as "Depth Dimension."

Full details on the 3-D Blu-ray will be announced soon by Kino.

Oh man, I just hope this is region free, there's just no sensible reason to lock it...

Yes, all of the titles we own and license for 3-D Blu-ray release (The Bubble, Dragonfly Squadron, 3-D Rarities) are region free.

We want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy these 3-D treasures!

Also, the pop-out illusion of the large eyes in the picture will not be stunted by the restoration description. It should look awesome unabated in discrete 3D!
