These new 10 Gbps Internet plans would be ideal for 4K Blu-ray optical disc rental downloads

In the future, more Internet companies are going to run 100% fiber optic to the side of consumer’s houses, condominiums, and apartments. These companies will be either dedicated Internet companies or a fiber upgrade to peoples existing local telephone and cable company. This will allow for Internet speeds of 10 Gbps (10 Gbps is 10,000 Mbps) or greater. In order to take advantage of 10 Gbps Internet speed businesses and homes will need to run fiber to the different rooms in the building, or use CAT7A cable (CAT6A is also rated for 10 Gbps). CAT5e cable is only rated for up to 1 Gbps.

With 10 Gbps speeds consumers could purchase and rent 4K optical disc images and download them to a secure encrypted 20TB+ hard drive server if the studios decide to allow Blu-ray images to be downloaded for a 24-48 hour rental window.

US Internet is the fastest Internet provider in the world

US Internet, a Minnetonka Minnesota based company is offering 10 Gbps Internet speeds over its 100% fiber optic network. The service is available to 30,000 households, and then will be offered to more consumers in the Twin Cities over the next 5 to 6 years. For $399 one can experience 10 Gbps Internet speeds (good price for that speed level). In theory over time, prices will come down. What is amazing is that for only $65 a month one can purchase the slower 1 Gbps Internet plan. That is an excellent price since there are cable companies charging around $300+ for only 500 Mbps speeds. For $65 the 1 Gbps Internet speed that US Internet is offering is a real bargain. There are people in rural areas that pay over $65 a month for their 10-12 Mbps ADSL service. Also just like Verizon FIOS, US Internet plans are both the same for upload and download. For example the 10 Gbps plan is 10 Gbps download and 10 Gbps upload. Most Internet providers offer much slower upload speeds.

The good news is that companies similar to US Internet, Google Internet, and Verizon FIOS will in theory expand nationwide over the many years and decades (Also Europe, Australia and other countries in theory will also see fiber companies rolling out super high speed Internet service). In the mean time new homes and remodeled homes should be wired with either fiber, CAT7A, or at the minimum CAT6A in order to take advantage of 10 Gbps speeds. Speeds greater than 10 Gbps will require high speed fiber with 100 Gbps ratings. CAT7A has shielded pairs and under short distances can handle speeds faster than 10 Gbps.

Wired Internet is faster, more reliable, and more secure when compared to wireless Internet. However more and more consumers are purchasing small portable devices that require WI-FI. The 4K quality tablet screens being designed and other wireless devices could use a faster WI-FI network. Maybe one day WI-FI networks in homes might be designed to handle speeds greater than 10 Gbps instead of todays under 600 Mbps speeds. Many home wireless WI-FI networks max out at around 300 Mbps under ideal conditions. Someone might want to download a 4K movie in a few minutes to a WI-FI hard drive server and then stream it over their WI-FI network. Faster WI-FI networks will be needed, however history has shown that wired is always faster than wireless. In addition, the farther one gets away from the WI-FI antenna the slower the networking connection gets.
