Borderlands 2 Prequel Rumoured For PS3, Xbox 360 and PC

Borderlands 2 is set to get a prequel game on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC later this year, according to a new report.

GamePointsNow.com is suggesting the shooter will take place between Borderlands 1 and 2, with 2K Australia heading up development in conjunction with Gearbox Software. Release is rumoured for later in 2014.

You'll be able to choose between one of four characters: Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap, the last of which is a combat-ready version of Claptrap.

The four are Handsome Jack's lieutenants, and the game will follow a younger version of the villain as he starts to make a name for himself in pursuit of an alien artifact. Events are meant to take place on Pandora's moon Elpis, as well as in Hyperion's giant H-shaped base, that you may have seen orbiting the planet in Borderlands 2.

In terms of new weapons, a freezing Cryo class is reported to be introduced, while low gravity on Elpis means you'll be equipped with a jetpack to get around. Oxygen takes on an important role as a resource, and you'll have to manage your reserves by looting "Ox-Kits".

A next-gen Gearbox title is expected to be announced this year, though we heard in February that Borderlands 3 isn't in development at the studio.

2K responded to our inquiries with a "no comment". So for now at least, all we've officially got is the upcoming episodic Tales from the Borderlands and the Vita port of Borderlands 2 to keep us occupied.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’s Mercenary Day Starts Today!



Happy Mercenary Day! Much like the citizens of Pandora, folks on Elpis love to take time every year celebrate the holiday season with generosity, giving, and murder. From today until January 5th, you’ll be able to celebrate right along with them in a brand new in-game event available for free to all players.

You’ll find some “merry” enemies in the mood for a little holiday cheer over at the R & D Facility and Pity’s Fall, plus a terrifying-but-celebratory new Kraggon in Serenity’s Waste named Odjurymir that will give you a chance of getting a new weapon if you manage to defeat it.

On top of that, the inhabitants of Elpis have dressed up the place with a little bit of holiday flair, so keep an eye out for decorations that may even have a few goodies inside (because ‘tis the season). In the spirit of giving, all ammo is also 25% cheaper for the entirety of the event. Score!

Sounds like great news! The blu ray drive on my 80 gig ps3 crapped out a month ago and Borderlands 2 from PS+ was the only game i was playing on it. Looking forward to this!

I really hope it's not a case of take 2 deciding release on last gen and then do a current gen port 6-8 months later.

that really doesnt bother me all that much. just as long as the saves can be transfered between the ps3/ps4.

If I were Sony I would fund the development of a PS4 port and make it a next gen exclusive.

No reason not to.

Having Borderlands exclusively on your system could be a big deal especially since its already on Vita.

Watched the game play footage and it looks fun. Disappointed that there's no news for next gen consoles. Will wait until this game hits PS+ on the PS3 for free or will buy when it's released on the PS4 - whichever comes first.

I hate this wanting exclusivity to platforms that people seem to want. The more platforms a game is released on the better imho.

No it isn't. Borderlands 2 is on ps3, 360, pc and vita. It is also the worst release of the game with serious performance issues.
