Default Jane Eyre (1943) - November 12, 2013

Jane Eyre Blu-ray

One of my favourite adaptations! Twilight Time definitely conveyed all of the film's evocative Gothic atmosphere with this cover.

Love the gothic cover as well! It shows how the gate does indeed seem to engulf meek Jane.

I'm currently reading the book in class and I've been thinking about this version of the story (along with Zeffirelli's version and the mediocre one from a few years back).

I try not to buy Twilight Time releases as a rule (although I do have a few), but this is a must buy for me. One version of Jane Eyre I have never seen but have always wanted to see. Cannot wait!

I find this version too abridged and melodramatic. I really liked the recent big screen adaptation:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Jane-Eyre-Blu-ray/25298/

and the 2006 BBC television series:

I can't wait to see this one too, all the new Jane Eyre movies just disappoint. Getting this one day one as it should be a hot seller.

I haven't seen it, but love the book. The new version is too abridged.

I enjoyed that adaptation, too. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the novel! I wish it would be released on Blu-ray, too.

Pre-orders go live on the Screen Archives Entertainment website at 4 pm Eastern on Wednesday, October 23. Highly unlikely this will sell out anytime soon, but if you have not already done so, set up your account at SAE ahead of time. It will be available on amazon sometime after the actual release date, but you will still be ordering it from SAE even through amazon. I just go straight to SAE for these.

Not a single person was on board with a boycott so fawk it. I'll at least finish out the year. Don't think i'll be buying 4-5 titles a month next year. Hell, Kaufman is even still reviewing them on his own dime.

Bernard Herrmann. Orson Welles. That's all I need to hear. I'll definitely be picking this one up!

Exactly my thoughts, along with being a fan of the story myself. Never seen this version but will be preordering it today.

Terrific adaptation with gorgeous monochrome cinematography. Although he is not credited as director, it certainly feels like an Orson Welles film. Watch for beautiful Elizabeth Taylor's brief, but memorable and moving performance. I'm looking forward to receiving the blu ray.
