I hope so but they would have to go back and redo the new effects in 1080P. Not sure if Paramount would pony up the money

Next year is the 50th Anniversary...I think if they were going to release it, that would be the perfect time.

I hope this is the case along with WOK: director's cut, if paramount does not do it for the anniversary then it's unlikely to get released.

They only released alternate cuts of three of the movies, TMP, TWOK and UC.

Personally I'm hoping for all three, really.

What they really need to do is release an ultimate edition box set with all movies, all cuts, and better transfers. In a perfect world I suppose.

Yeah, the one where major studios actually care about their catalog titles.

I'd prefer to have the older, dated but pre DNR master of the theatrical cut (as can be seen on Vudu in 1080p/HDX) on disc, with lossless audio as majestic as the laserdisc's PCM track.

Every single visual change in the DE looks cheap as hell, imo, which hurts a film whose primary attribute is how beautiful it looks and sounds.

If paramount releases this in HD it will no doubt be mastered only in 1080P and released the day 4K Blu titles start appearing. In 15 more years we'll get a proper 4K version.

Wait what? The Vudu version is like that? Interesting, are any of the others?
