Default Thw X-Files on Netflix - no onscreen text or subtitles?

I have all of the seasons on DVD but thought I'd have a look at the show on Netflix to see if there was any difference in quality.

On selecting some segments from a few random episodes I noticed that something seemed to be missing, then I realised what it was - the onscreen text. There isn't any. Even "The Truth is Out There" after the title credits is absent. There's also no information on time and location (which you would normally see at the bottom of the screen when the episode switches from one location to another). I've since learned that apparently there's no English subtitles either for non-English spoken parts.

I did some research into this and found a few threads on the matter, particularly on Reddit.

Apparently The X-Files was removed from Netflix US some time ago, but when it returned the text was absent. Netflix Canada apparently had the text until relatively recently when it too vanished.

A working theory is that Netflix are for some reason using the International masters and not the localised masters. (Either that or it's aliens ............. )

Has anyone else noticed this?
