Ok, I don't know if The Digital Bits is trippin, but here you go:

Meanwhile, Paramount will release a Crocodile Dundee/Crocodile Dundee II double feature, a Flushed Away/Chicken Run/Wallace & Gromit triple feature, a Road to El Dorado/Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas/Joseph: King of Dreams triple feature and BD singles of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and The Godfather, Part III, all on 5/13. Following on 5/20 are DVD versions of Arthur Hailey’s The Moneychangers, Happy Days: The Fifth Season and The Revengers.

Weird that they'd throw Joseph: King of Dreams in with Road to El Dorado / Sinbad instead of doing a double feature with Prince of Egypt.

That would make more sense, wouldn't it? The only reason I can think of is that they would want to give The Price of Egypt its own release, as it is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) of Dreamworks' pre-Shrek films. Same with Antz.

I'd rather not have the DTV film bundled with the others, but I guess I'll take what I can get.

I'm surprised that all of the Aardman features are just getting bundled together. Flushed Away was a bomb, but I would have guessed that Chicken Run and the Wallace and Gromit feature are big enough to warrant their own releases.

Yeah, I know, you get more for your buck, but I'm just not a fan of packaging films together like these. I simply just want to own the films I love and Sinbad and Joseph are not.

O'well, at the very least I am just super happy to see Road to El Dorado finally get a BD release.

And pretty much confirms the theory I'd already had, namely that Katzenberg had dumped all the pre-Shrek Dreamworks in the discard bin.
I'd have rather seen an El Dorado/Prince/Joseph teamup too (as Sinbad's not a musical), and pair Sinbad with Spirit (in the "Studio-killer flop collection"? ), but maybe they have bigger plans for Prince as "The one everybody remembered, from the director of Brave" that they can sell on its own, and it's nice that they're finally getting back on the horse again about their pre-Shrek 2D's.
And no, that wasn't a Spirit pun.

Sinbad was the only movie I have ever walked out of the theater in.

Worse, in fact. Not only did it bring Katzenberg's "Give 'em Lion King" taste for melodramatic hero-vs.-villain stories to a screeching halt at the studio--and cause Disney to rewrite "Home on the Range" into a comedy instead of an action-western--it's possible that Spirit losing to Spirited Away at the Oscars the very next year after Shrek is what CAUSED Katz's legendary Ahab-like obsession with getting that second Animated Oscar.
(Studio Ghibli fans, OTOH, had to put up with six months of mainstream people who hadn't heard of Japanese animation yet saying "'Spirited Away'? You mean the horse movie? That one sucked!")

BUT....it has horses in it. So, out of all the "discarded" pre-Shreks, they think there's still a few little girls out there too young to remember, that they can still fool.
(And lord help me, I'VE had to sit through the durned thing on at least one niece-babysitting job.)

Sinbad is now pretty much remembered as "The movie that killed off 2-D animation"...Partly by mistake.
It failed because of the dim script, of course, but analysts were trying to explain why the Rugrats Bubble of '98-'02 was causing one feature-upgraded cable movie after another to tank in '02, and they wanted one more action movie to flop to prove the Atlantis/Final Fantasy/Titan AE theory--And when Sinbad flopped, Katzenberg tried to scapegoat that "Audiences were probably confused by the mix of 2D characters and 3D backgrounds...Maybe they would have responded better if it'd been in all 3D CGI". Analysts quickly trumpeted that into "Katzenberg sez, '2D is Dead!" to get the "evidence" they needed, and Katz quickly jumped on the bandwagon. ("Huh?...Oh, yeah, it's dog meat, it's worm-food, bury it now! We've got more Shrek and Madagascar!")

Yeah, but why would Katz trot out his old "Lion King = Hamlet" act and go so far out of his way to say El Dorado wasn't a version of Kipling's "The Man Who Would Be King" (complete with the duplicitous native girl who ultimately ruins everything)?
"A tribute to Hope & Crosby"??...What, was Kipling still under copyright? I was always under the assumption he WASN'T.

(Now, as to what Disney was doing with "Kingdom of the Sun" at the time, I really couldn't say...)

I'm a fan of El Dorado too. Very good film.

The other two? Not so much.

What about Antz and Prince of Egypt?

Glad Spirit is getting its own release. That one is very good too.

On the one hand I'm annoyed that Prince of Egypt still doesn't have a release date. But I guess it's safe to assume that it's coming sooner rather than later and on its own disc. Fair trade.
