I'm a big fan of both Arrow Video and Criterion, as both companies continue to put out some of my favorite movies. However, as time goes by I find myself enjoying the attention to detail Arrow puts into it's releases when it comes to packaging. My favorite Criterion release by far is Vampyr (1932) which puts together an amazing film with brilliant packaging including box and book. Meanwhile when it comes to Arrow I have a laundry list of releases where I really enjoy the packaging/book including Ringu, Battles Without Honor and Humanity, Female Prisoner Scorpion, Donnie Darko and so on.
I realize this is purely subjective and that the movies themselves are the most important as I would take Hidden Fortress in a paper sleeve over most Arrow releases but when it comes to the aesthetics of the packaging do you have a preference? As much as I love both companies there is something about Arrow that I just dig ![]() |
