Default Importing a PS3

im kicking around the idea of importing a Region A PS3 from the U.S

if there is still a large amount of movies that i want that are locked with no date set here.

if i was going to get one would i have any trouble setting it up? would all the cords etc , Oz's power points and tv ports etc?

I am region C.. for 90% of the year and region A for the other 10% back in forth a lot from china to the US and I imported a few region A PS3...

If you go with quality components.. high end TV (sony.. panasonic.. pioneer) you should have no signal issues. you may have a hard time getting a good reciever/amp... I got a sony one that does the trick..

your biggest problem is that you will need a power transformer to adjust to 110V 60Hz... (pretty sure) you can check the box... I believe AU is 220 or 240.. similar to china.. I went to my local Techie store over here and bought a real nice converter you should be able to do the same.. one thing to keep in mind.. 1.. the transformer will give off a lot of heat unless it is high quality so test it out at the store if possible.. don't skimp on the price.. also you may want to buy a cooling shell for you PS3.

Nope, I live in Switzerland (230V), there is no need for a power converter, the PS3 has a universal power supply.

hong kong ps3 (NTSC-J) does not need a power converter.

i think for the most part you'll be fine; HD formats don't give a crap about PAL vs. NTSC as far as i know. the only thing you may need to be concerned about is whether or not SD video will work (i have no idea if oz is PAL or NTSC).

Hey Zyclone,

I just ordered a 40gb US PS3 today to go along with my Aussie 60gb (picked it up really cheap on ebay, couldn't resist). It will be arriving next week and I'll let you know how I go setting it up in Oz.

SD extras in PAL may not work on a US PS3. I'd say the best bet is to get a HK or TW PS3 as they're known to work fine. The only disadvantage is that they're R3 for DVDs, and Asia/JP for games.

hey Zyclone,

I received my US 40gb PS3 about 2 weeks ago, it works flawlessly and arrived in the counrty no problem, just by an Aussie PC power cord and plug it in with that (no step down convertor required) and away you go.

I couldn't be happier, enjoying all the BDs available in Oz, the US, and the EU!

I'm actually looking for the opposite. I live in Region A but want to import a Region B player or PS3. They are just so expensive with the exchange rate and marked up prices. Makes me so sad cos I really want the German language tracks available on some region locked titles.

Any suggestions?
