Me and a friend were discussing our top 5 favorite scenes from a film and thought I would bring the question here.
What are your all time top 5 favorite scenes, sequences, or set-pieces from a film? ..Acting, cinematography, music, or anything that moved you and remained a standout moment in film to you, I want to hear it. Sorry if this has already been a thread, but I was unable to find a similar topic with the search function. 1: Final Battle - Seven Samurai. The ultimate climax after one of the greatest buildups in cinema history... I have never seen a director control the audiences emotions and thoughts as much as Kurosawa does with Seven Samurai; it is the pinnacle of epic cinema and flawless writing all coming together in one glorious moment. Filmmaking at its finest. 2: Tank Attack/Baby Rescue - Children Of Men. Emmanuel Lubezki, what more is there to say... A beautiful early example of what is now his trademark "single take" style cinematography and a scene that moves me to tears almost every time I see it. 3: Alma's Monologue - Persona. Such an expert level of writing and directing that one could swear that there was a sex scene in the film even though it is nothing but words. This scene stuck with me for years after my first viewing as I could not shake how much of an impact words can have without seeing the actual events of a film unfold. Expert writing from Bergman. 4: An Ocean of Oil/ Accident at the Derrick - There Will Be Blood. Superb directing and a hypnotic score from both Anderson and Greenwood combine to make a spellbinding set-piece that propels the characters into their true nature. Truly the pivotal turning point of the story for me, and the final shot of Daniel covered in oil, staring into the burning flames, is one of my favorite shots from the entire film. 5: Don't Blink - The Master. Another P.T. Anderson moment, but this scene is quite possibly, to me, one of the greatest displays of an acting masterclass that I have ever seen. Hoffman and Phoenix take my breath away in this scene and I find myself involuntarily trying not to blink when caught up in their talent. It is a spellbinding scene that is unforgettable to me when I think of some of the greatest performances in cinema history. Honorable mentions: The Finale - Taxi Driver, Star Gate Sequence - 2001 a Space Odyssey, Meeting Kurtz - Apocalypse Now, Final Sequence - Annihilation, The Death of Lil Ze - City of God, T-Rex Attack - Jurassic Park, Touring the Ghetto - Schindler's List, Voight-Kampff on Rachel pt.1 - Blade Runner. The Revenant- Pelt hunter/Indian ambush, Consumption/ Another Victim in the Dark - Under The Skin, "Good Joe" - Blade Runner 2049. Last edited by manunited1; 03-02-2019 at 02:16 AM. |
