Default Are there some days where your eyes don't want to watch 3D?

A couple times I have noticed, once while watching House of Wax 3D and the other times Kiss Me Kate 3D, that it looked very flat with no pop out. I complained in the forum about House of Wax and everybody said it looks great.

So I watch it again the next day and sure enough it looks fantastic. The separation with the glasses off is there (there was very little the day earlier) and all the pop out and depth that's I'm supposed to see.

So are there some days where your eyes don't want to be tricked into seeing 3D? If I watch a new movie and it looks flat, should I just watch a 2D movie instead and wait until tomorrow for 3D? I've only noticed this twice now, and both were on 50's movies. Could be I've watched several others being unimpressed when I would have been more impressed on a "3D day". Don't have a clue as to how frequently this occurs to me, but I hope it is very seldom.

I completely understand where you're coming from. The same thing has happened to me many times. It's strange.
Sometimes I think my players are messing with me or something, but I'm sure they're fine.

I don't fight it and usually just watch a 2D movie until I'm 3D-ready again.

I think when I watch a new 3D movie going forward, if I'm not impressed I should pop in House of Wax (or another 3D movie I know looks good) to see if my eyes are in the mood.

Doesn't sound healthy.

I don't have any issues insofar as experiencing moments where I'm unable to "see" 3D, or experiencing any eye-fatigue issues in general. Having said that, watching 3D at home requires dedicated viewing time in order to achieve the best experience, because the picture is more sensitive to off-axis image degradation, so the ideal situation is being planted in the sweet spot directly in front of the display.

It's an unhealthy addiction that I'm aware of and constantly striving to keep in check. I've incorporated the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous into my daily regimen to try to help curb my insatiable 3D appetite.
I've admitted that I'm powerless over my 3D addiction and that my viewing habits have become unmanageable, but it's hard to believe that a power greater than myself can restore me to sanity after watching Prometheus and Tron in 3D!

Please pray for me in 4K!

Same with 2d for me, some days my eyes just are two fatigued to be able to 'concentrate' properly. Which impacts how I view 2d and 3d imagery. This is rather rare for myself though.

So maybe my issue has to do with eye fatigue as well then.

I believe this can happen for a number of reasons. illusion is a personal thing. This can happen with the same display, can happen from equipment malfunction, setup component, possibly an inaccurate setting choice or electronic fluke. Personally I see differences from the same theatrical movie viewed at a different time. Various setups have noticeable differences.. This including experiences with 7 3D displays at home - 3 OLED, 2 LCD, 2 Plasma all with various components.

Your eyes should see in 3D all the time (be it a 3D film or what is in front of your face). So if there are some days when your eyes don't see 3D (be it in 3D film or not) then you should see a doctor since the repercussions can be a lot worst than not getting the 3D effect from a film.

That being said, depth perception is your brain taking the image you get from your left eye and comparing it to the one from the right eye and where the thing you see relates to both those images (i.e. if you look out of your right eye only your nose will be at your left and if you only use your left eye it will be at the right.) so the 3D illusion created by a film can be broken when things don't make sense to your brain (i.e. for example if you put on the glasses backwards and your right eye sees the left image and the left one the right one, some things will look the opposite -if it makes sense- while others will lose the 3D effect and might disappear completely-if they don't make sense), so there can be technical reasons, for example if someone is lying on the side watching the film the displacement should be up/down in real life instead of left/right as it was shot and so it can be broken)

Sounds like an eye fatigue issue. Unless it's occurring with overuse or poor quality eye-straining 3D, there could be a minor underlying anatomical abnormality with your extraocular or intraocular muscles and their ability to converge and focus on objects. Or it could be eye fatigue secondary to age-related changes in the lens. You should mention it at your next eye check-up with your optometrist/ophthalmologist.

Yes, because sometimes my eyes do still tend to find it a little hard to adjust to watching various 3D titles using the 3D glasses, which is when I'm more than happy to stick with just their regular 2D versions instead...Although I am pleased to say that this doesn't usually happen too often
